When to stop testing for food allergies?
« on: September 17, 2006, 14:25:53 pm »
I just had my Dr. appt for my 9 mth old and my DR told me that I do not need to test for allergies with food anymore. I was mentioning to her how it takes so long to introduce new foods since I started my lo on solids at 6 months and I have been using the 5 day rule.  She said that since my lo does not have any food allergies (none in the family) that I do not need to test anymore that since she has been exposed to fruits/vegs/cereal/proteins that her stomach is mature enough to handle new foods now. She said that I can give her a new food every day.
Is this accurate? Has anyone ever heard of this?

Thanks

I've heard true gut maturity happens at 11 months, not 9. But that said, I think it's probably OK to proceed as your doctor said - just only one new food a day, still earlier in the day, and maybe give an extra day or two for more common allergens (dairy, eggs, wheat, etc).
