9mo old wakes early - not sure what to tweak
« on: September 20, 2006, 16:05:58 pm »
Hi! Maybe I should be posting this in the naps or sleep or nightwakes or maybe all?

My little guy has been waking early since we came back from our summer vacations at the beginning of August and I've been trying to get him back on track but I'm not sure which part of my routine needs tweaking...

He used to sleep from 8pm to about 8am but now is waking anywhere from 5:00 to 6:30. Sometimes, I can get him back to sleep other times not... I've tried leghtening naps in the day and also cutting back. I've seen the best results with cutting back (ie: 1-hour am nap and 45min pm nap). I'm starting to wonder if I should be going down to one nap and it seems pretty tricky!

I need some input.

Here is one of our days (but they vary a lot lately because I try things and it depends what time he gets up)

I put him to bed at 8pm woke @ 5:33am (I might have gone in once to help him resettle or maybe not)
Woke again @ 7:45am
AM nap: 1,5 hours @ 10:30
PM nap: 2,5 hours @ 14:30
Bed time: 8pm and woke @ 6:15 and I wasn't able to resettle until 7:30

Thanks!

HI,

I would limit his naps to an 1.5 or 1 hour and put him to bed at 7PM instead of 8PM.  Try this for at least a WEEK and he will probably start sleeping later.

Thanks!

I'll definitely give it a try. Do you think this is just going to be for a time and then we'll be able to go back to 8 to 8 nights?

It is hard to say, he may go back AND to clarify I meant limit his naps to 1/1.5 hours EACH.
