When is honey ok?

I have a vague feeling that it's around 1 year that you can give honey, but I can't remember....anyone know for sure?  It's Rosh Hashanah this weekend, so I know it'll come up.  Dd's almost 2 so I think it's ok, but looking for reassurance....

Erin : It is 1 years. I verify in the book they gave us when we left the maternity ward. This book is from The Public Health National Institut. (I did a free translation of Institut national de Santé publique.) Seeing you are in Montreal you could call you CLSC and I'm sure they will provide plenty of info. Good luck.

So Yes at 2 she's old enough for honey.

I know the weekend is mostly over by now, but wanted to add that my wonderful pediatrician from before we moved (can you tell I miss him?) told me that you can give honey after they start walking -- reason being that a honey allergy causes botulism (sp?) which results in paralysis - and their theory was that once your LO is walking it is easy to tell if there is any sort of paralysis while if you give it beforehand it might be harder to spot a reaction.

It also says on the back of honey jars 'not suitable for children under 12 months old' so i always followed that, never saw anything written anywhere about honey... my LOs love it!

Yep, one year... Lilah had her first taste of honey at Rosh Hashana last year, in fact!

Lilah LOVES honey, too... she must have it on her toast and her (plain) yogurt, as well as pancakes and waffles.
