Night waking - happy and chatty but in parents room!?!
« on: September 27, 2006, 12:37:42 pm »
Hi there,

Said id post for a friend, see what ideas you have! Little girl is 16 months and has slept fine up until now, thing is shes just started (the past month) waking in the middle of the night and chatting to herself for about an hour.  Mum said she doesn't cry just is awake! Trouble is shes in mums room and shes keeping mum awake.  Mum and partner both work so need there sleep.  Usually I would say ignore it if shes happy but if shes keeping parents awake then its a problem I guess!!

She has a 1 hour nap at 1pm and goes to bed at 7.

Thanks in advance!!

The only thing I can think of is its time for her to have her own room. At 16 months she should be fine in her own room. As far as I know this is a normal stage for LO's her age.
Did she say why she hasn't been moved yet?

I'm gonna move this to the toddler bored for more insight.

Hiya, sorry forgot to say, having her own room isnt possible! Obviously that would be the best idea but they live in a one bedroom apartment at the mo! Although they have considered sleeping in the living room and getting a blow up bed!!

Not sure how to help then, sorry, the ideal way would be ignore, but that doesn't work if parents need to be in the same room. I know my friend lets her LO (11 month old) have the bedroom and sleeps in the living room, but its not ideal I'm sure. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Hi there
I was actually going to ask if your dh wakes if she cries?  If he does but he isn't bothered by her chatting, like you are for example, perhaps try using ear plugs for a while until you are able to move into a 2 bedroom.  If this is not a possibility, then I would get a mattress (they make ones that are double height and have a pump in them) and sleep in the living room.  I say this because there is little that you can do with your dd waking and chatting to herself.

Thanks Beth, its not actually me its a friends and yes her DP does wake up and they both lay there just listening and cannot sleep! I will suggest sleeping in the living room for a while until she passes this stage!! Thank you all x
