Outings - He hates it!
« on: October 02, 2006, 01:44:43 am »
Hi Everyone,

My LO hates being out. The last few occasions we have been somewhere, shopping/walking,  and he has woken up in his pram, he starts crying hystericly (you know when you think they are not going to breath). It's making me nervous about outings..I get strange looks from people, feeling a bit housebound.  ???

He usually not much of a cry baby at home? Any tips?

As you have him out more often awake, I suspect he'll adjust a little bit. He's probably freaked out wondering where he woke up, poor guy!

Meanwhile, can you take a favorite blanket with him, or at least cover part of his stroller/carrier/whatever so he has time to acclimate?

Can you carry him in a sling or a carrier instead of the stroller?  I'm sure it's just him not knowing where he is and waking up in a strange place.

Rachel did the same but don't worry he'll get used to going out and will start to love it.  I always would get Rachel out and give her a cuddle as she woke up so she realised I was there for her, then I would sit her back in her buggy sitting quite upright so she could see what was going on and chat to her all the time.  I also made sure she always had a soft toy for comfort with her.  hth

I would guess also that he gets just scraed waking up in strange place.
When I have to put my LO to sleep somewhere else than home I make sure he has something with his own smell. Like blankie.Even sheet where he is lying is good

Someone once said if you feel asleep in a quiet room & woke up in a noisy place you would be freaked out... they are the same.
As a pp said, get him up for a cuddle, as soon as he starts to wake (before crying) stop & sit somewhere if you can & give him a cuddle.

Thanks Everyone,

I have introduced a blankie and tried to reduce outings when he is due for a nap.

It seems to be going better. I put him in a pouch/carrier whenever I can and he is
getting more used to being out and about. Your right though, it must be a bit scary to wake up in a noisy shopping centre.

Thanks guys.
