Running out of ideas for breakfast!!!
« on: October 02, 2006, 15:44:20 pm »
Hello,

My 7 month old has been happy for the last month having porridge sometimes with fruit for breakfast, but i think she bored with it?

She is just refusing to eat it.  I have tried the breakfasts in a box, but they are really sweet and she doesn't like them either.

If it was up to her she would only have fruit to eat all day!
She is not very good with anything with lumps in.

Please any ideas because its ruining her routine.

Have you intorduced yougurt yet.  How about bread?  I put some veggie or fruit puree on bread and make a sandwich, DD loves that.  Also you can lightly toast bread and put cream cheese on it.  HTH

Anything can be breakfast.... doesn't have to be "breakfast" food.  Sweet potatoes?  Avacado?  Squash?

Proud to have breastfed for a combined total of 35 months

When I started bread it was with no crusts.  Tear it into insy bitsy pieces if she is having a problem getting it down as this will get her used to the taste and texture.  If you are uneasy with giving her bread then don't, it is perfectly fine.  And as Rachel stated anyfood is ok it doesn't have to meet the preconcieved notions we have in our head.  I didn't start feeding my DD "breakfast foods" until just recently and still on occasion she doesn't get "breakfast foods".  And remember to wait about 3 days for allergies longer if allergies are in your family.

We try and rotate;
ready brek
weetabix
(the above and fruit)

fruit on its own
cheerios as finger food + fruit
toast with jam, butter, philadephia (not all together)
probably load more that I can't think of. ;)

We did weetabix and ready brek from 6 months with cows milk.

My dd started on this when she was about 12mo, and still loves it:

1/2 cup wheatgerm
1/3 cup rolled oats
1 cup apple/pear juice

Mix together and leave in the fridge overnight.

In the morning, mix a couple of spoonsful with a couple of spoons of fruit puree.

No lumps, quite delicious.  (Been known to eat it myself!!  ;) )

I was coming on here to post the same question, my DD is 9 mo in a week. She usually has weetabix or porridge, with toast as a finger food, for breakfast. Although for the past week she has been refusing her cereal but still eating her toast.

I will try a few of the suggestions on here,  Thank you

we have done all of the ones Lauren suggested (weetabix, ready brek, fruit, toast etc). Recently dd started refusing the spoon (have you ever seen a baby trying to eat ready brek with their fingers, lol) so we have been doing more finger foods. We have done scotch pancakes ripped into little bits and croissants today- she loved them!

we have also started porridge, DS will eat his and most of mine + a banana  :o

When you say she refuses the spoon, is she just refusing it from you or does she want to feed herself?  I have to use 2 spoons at feeding time, one for DS and one for me.
