sodium thoughts?
« on: October 06, 2006, 00:04:06 am »
hi all,

have been worrying about sodium for a while. i don't use it in things i cook, but as i introduce some more "convenient" foods into DS' diet, i worry about him having too much salt. for instance, i made us cheesy baked beans on toast yesterday, and after we'd finished, thought to check the label. i'd always thought baked beans were pretty healthy (they're the heinz beans in tomato sauce), but i read that 1/3 of a can has 22% of the RDA of sodium for an adult! how does that translate to the RDA of a 1 year old? how much is wise for a 1 year old to have?

thanks for any pointers!

Sodium is the bain of my life!!!!!!!!

My boys have a condition where they have too much salt in their body, so most foods just make them worse !
We have to go for no sodium, or low sodium. Try teling a 4 yr old no mcdonalds, they don't get it!!!
Beans are full of sodium!!!!!!!!!!

so sorry to hear that, jobi! it must make life difficult  :(

d'ya reckon it's the beans themselves, or the sauce and all the additivies?

i remember sainsburys used to do a low-sugar, low-salt version, but they just added nutra-sweet instead!

I think its the sauce  :-\
Don't quote me on that though

I'm on a network thing, they go by the book, no this no that, its hard. The kids are slow to gain weight  so its if he likes it, let him hav it!!!!!!
Theres a mum, with older kids, i follow her, she lets them eat the maccie an crap but knows limits, thats how i would rather be,

Theres so many things, don't  eat, eat it, its soo hard. You know what the good foods are and the bad just go with it!!
