« on: October 06, 2006, 02:00:05 am »
Ok, we had ds on enfamil lipil when he was born...he got blood in his stoll , so w eswitched to soy, helped for 3 weeks, then gas got so bad he would scream for hours... a week ago switchedto enfamil lipil(dr said to do that since blood had been from anal fissure)   he was such a happy baby, till yesterday, poops got really bad and now he has diarrhea...could he be allergic to both or is the gas from the soy formulanormal...I have no clue what to do, were off to the drs tomorrow, but dont know what to do...am so frustrated and feel so bad for him. thanks for any help or advice, appreciate it!!! Yup, he can react to both.  Or, the gas could be from the soy.  For the first, there is a couple of hypoallergenic (yucky tasting) formulas.  Or, if that's not it, some do better with Good Start formulas.  We used Gentlease, less lactose and the proteins are partially broken down.  Give that lil' guy a snuggle from me and let us know what the doc suggests.

Oh... I would deft. do the hypoallergenic formula. How old your lo?

My son, now 14 mos. old could not tolerate anything but Nutramigen.  It is very gross smelling and it took him a few times before he took it.

I sware we tried every single formula out there:  Similiac (screamed and cried, gas) Enfamill (smae thing).  Carnation Good Start (screamed even worse, so constipated and made his poop green), Soy (smae thing, bad bad gas).  Gentlease (thought at first it was working, but no luck, back to screaming night and day), Lactose Free (no luck).

I would actually recommend Similiac Alimentum.  It is just Similiacs version of the hypoallergenic formula and it does not smell nearly as bad.

The blood could have very easily from a tear, but if he is super fussy like that, try hypoallergenic.  It is very very expensive, but I would call my doctors office all the time and ask for samples.

Good Luck, I have been there and still have problems with milk (or so we think), still trying to figure it out.

I would switch to a hypoallergenic formula. My dd had blood in her stool that started when she was 2 weeks old and it continued for a number of weeks. 3 doctors told us it was fissues but it never got better (and she SCREAMED every night until 4:30am). Finally we went to the hospital and that's were I found out her blood was from a milk protein allergy. Some babies that have a milk protein allergy are also allergic to soy.
