No more naps at 18months?????????
« on: October 06, 2006, 09:33:14 am »
I caught up with a friend of mine today who told me that both her boys gave up all their naps at 18months  ??? ??? Has anyone else heard of this or their LO has done the same. I though the average age for giving up naps is 3yrs old  ???

I think it can start from that age. But IMO, most kids do need it. My ds started with stopping napping just under 2, but I persevered over a few months and he went back to napping on and off. By 3 he was maybe only napping a couple of times a week.

I've actually read it somewhere in this site that a friend of a friend's lo stopped napping at 18 months but as long as he/she got their 14 hrs of sleep at night. It does seem unusual though cause my lo would be an absolute mosnter if she didn't get her nap. I too thought that they nap until 3 and then it drops off after that.

My DD stopped napping a few months before she turned 2.  She just didn't need it. She would sleep around 11 hours overnight.  Doesn't sound like much but it's really all she needed. My DS was 2 in June and still really needs his nap.  I guess it really does depend on the child.
