Can I have your input please?
« on: October 06, 2006, 13:41:47 pm »
So you prob all know that we have been havign rather a lot of issues with napping right now due sto my constant moaning on here! Well after 3 days of virtualyl no naps, I figured out that Thomas must be havign a reflux flare up due to being weaned off meds too soon; feelign very guilty :-[ Anyway, today I rocked him to sleep for both naps and he was asleep in mins which brings on a few Qs for you fantastic ladies....firstly...what the ....??? If he is falling asleep so quickly he MUST be tired enough for his sleeps. Secondly... if can fall asleep independently and quite quickly at bedtime then what is the issue for naps? Taking out all the reflux realted issues, I think hes fighting day sleep, as tho he didnt want to sleep? MAke sense? Anyone else imagine this? Also...should I just continue to rock him to sleep for naps for a few days till I'm sure the reflux is under wraps and till he gets some rest as i think hes also now stuck in an overtired cycle?

ANY tips or input would be greatly appreciated!

I WOULD!! I have no problem rocking and babying DS when he has the flu or other sickness because I know it is only temporary and so far (fingers crossed) he has always been able to transition back to napping on his own after he was feeling better.  Sometimes it takes a few days but it is worth it knowing you are giving him much needed sleep when he is feeling poorly (reflux)

When you are sure he is feeling better you might need to do WI/WO for his naps.  There might be a few days that he will be overtired from lack of sleep but eventually he should get it.

POOR THOMAS!  FEEL BETTER and GOOD LUCK TO YOU YAYA!   :-* :-* :-*

  LOL!!!

Do you sit in a rocking chair when you rock him?  That always helps.  I know that is total accidental parenting but I do not mind taking a few steps backwards when lo is sick.

My feeling is that if he WAS falling asleep independently on his own previously, it should not be too difficult to get him back on track.

You have not failed!!!!  We always have periods where all sleeping and eating are going well and then BAM, an ear infection or virus comes along and messes it all up.  Keep you on your toes (or in the rocking chair. ha ha  ;D ;D)

Hang in there.

Confession....we rocked Tyler to sleep for ALL NAPS AND NIGHTIME SLEEP till he was 8-9 months old.   :-[ :-[  He is a big boy like Thomas too!!  He is 16 months now and has no problem falling asleep on his own for naps or at night.  (Except for the occassionally sickness etc.)

Not trying to brag...just want you to know there is hope.

Besides,,,,isn't it adorable when they fall asleep...their faces are so calm and peaceful.....   ;) ;) ;)

Yaya, is your LO's room dark and quiet during nap time. I found my LO difficult to settle for nap time, but very easy to settle for bedtime as well. The only difference I notice is that she can see everything during nap time. The room is not dark enough :(
Have you tried to make the room really dark durin nap time? Hope this will help.

litomi has a great point.  DS definitely started napping better when we darkened his room and introduced white noise (small desk fan).

What times are you putting him down for naps and how long is he sleeping?

sorry its taken me ages to get back to you. DS 's room is VERY dark as we have blackout blinds and certainly quiet (i walk around shhhhh-ing everyone LOL). So far hes been swaying between 1 na d 2 naps depending on wake up time but usually wake up 7 30ish , first nap 9.45 (by the time he falls asleep he has about 20min nap) and pm nap about 2.30 (again falls asleep late). If one nap, then about 12.30

Sounds exactly like my DD at that age so we moved her to nap then with great success. She wakes on average at 7am and goes down for her nap at 12pm for 2-3hrs (2hrs being the average). How does he do if he has 1 nap, how long is it and does he sleep better/worse at night?
