Is there such a thing as TOO MUCH drink?
« on: October 07, 2006, 12:41:25 pm »
Well i spend the majority of my day trying to force feed Jackson food and drink.... but Mikey drinks and drinks and drinks, he is like a fish! He wakes up after 5hrs of sleep drenched and i change him and 5hrs later he is soaked again! He doesnt really wee during the day seems to save it all for night time. But my question is could this be a symptom of an underlying problem, like a kidney related one? He seems to drink and drink but is always thirsty.

Hi Katy - lovely looking boys you have there!! And you're a cutie yourself!  ;D
I know in adults an unquenchable thirst is a sign of diabetes but in children I am not certain. I would definitely mention it to your pediatrician. Good luck and hope it's nothing at all to worry about.  :-*

My two, DS1 was always a soaker compared with DS2, although no harm to check with doctor anyway.

In fact DS1 still often wakes up wet even though he is trained by day Grrr

My dd drinks a lot too. So much so that during the summer, we were having leaks after half an hour during the day. I went to my health visitor and he did a test for diabetes (urine sample) but everything was fine. He told me to limit her fluid intake as he thought it was attention seeking behaviour. I tried it for one day, but had an unhappy, screaming and very constipated toddler. I guess some children just need to drink more. I'd get it checked out, but don't worry too much. The hv did say when he tested her that I would probably have noticed other symptoms too.

i dont know much about diabetes but i think lack of concentration, hyperactivity or excessive fatigue could all be symptoms, I had a little boy with diabetes in my class so remember some of the symptoms but a google search will give u better info
