When/How to intoduce cheerios?
« on: October 12, 2006, 15:14:32 pm »
I am nervous about giving by DD cheerios as they seem the perfect size to choke on... Can anyone offer advice/reassurance of how to do this?

She is 8 mos and chew pretty well.  She eats baby cookies, and pasta and small pieces of fruit/fish... do you think she is ready?

Any advice is much appreciated,

Jaime

Don't worry, an 8 month old can handle cheerios easily - especially if she can handle baby cookies and the other things you are listing. Pop one in your mouth and you'll see they practically dissolve immediately!

If you're really worried about it give her 2-3 on her tray and see how she does, so she can't get too many in her mouth at once.

Relax, she'll do just fine!  :)

We just started with Cheerios and they're great.  They are much smaller than I remember and actually are smaller than the veggie and fruit "puffs" Gerber makes.  My daugher LOVES them, so much so she is constantly looking for more!  As a matter of fact, I'm about to post a new topic related to cheerios...

Thanks for the support,

Cheers,

I had the same exact question, I was sure that the cheerios were just perfect to choke on, but I'll give it a try! Thanks for posting!

The good thing about cheerios is that they of course have a hole in the middle so if it did get stuck for a second they would still be able to breath (??).

One of the mom's on the march/April 2006 birth thread has been giving her lo cheerios since he was 6 months and has done fine with them.  I guess it all depends on the lo.
