16 mo feeding dilemmas...
« on: November 02, 2006, 02:19:39 am »
My 16 mo old lo has finally refused me feeding him supper (thus no more veggies or red meat).  He will use a spoon but takes a few spoons and refuses to feed anymore.  He wants to self feed but with fingers and no utensils.  Supper I'd always be able to get him his veggies in stews and soups etc.  Now he eats the same supper everynight and I don't know what to do (chicken fingers with pita toasted and brushed with olive oil and seasoning, a few peas, applesauce and yoghurt).  The last 2 items he will eat with a spoon.

He won't eat carrots, corn or any other veggie I have tried to offer him.  He used to eat well and lots but now no veggies at all.  He won't let me feed him either and I don't want to distract him or turn on the TV just to get the veggies in (that doesn't sound right...or do I have to resort to this?)

Please help as I am running out of food ideas.  I have checked the picky eaters forum but no help.

Thanks,

Sabine

Hi Sabine

My 16 month DS is the very same.  If you try and feed him with a spoon he'll really snobbily turn his nose up and face the other way.  If I load the spoon for him he'll take a few by himself but then would rather feed it to the cat.

The most success i have had is to either make his dinners finger food including carrots, peas  etc ... it takes a while and is stone cold but hey  ::)
But also he really loves using a fork ... probably as he has more control over the whole process.
As DS now won't even allow yoghurt from spoon I've started to buy the Munch Bunch Drinky Plus (yoghurt drinks) which he loves to have out of a straw.

Not really much help I know but you are not alone.

Linda

the fork is our saviour - the spoon seems to be not great for getting veggies in her but she loves stabbing them with a fork and then eating them.  what we do to trick them hey  :-*

My 19 month old will not use utensils and will not let me feed her so everything is finger food. ( I just posted on this question also). Mashed potato, veg, meat; everything. Just go with it....

DS uses those dainty little forks supposed to be for eating pastries. They are the right size for his hands and light. I got them from the antique stall at our local market

Just an update...lo is sick.  gastro.  diarrhea 6-7x/day and now refusing all food including milk.  this too will pass i know.   just hard to give anything because refuses all food including his favourites.  loves banana when sick so eating this.

anyone out there have any schedules to post for 16 mo old that wakes at 6-630??  i checked all the boards and could only find 1 or 2.  just wanted to know when and how much and what your lo's are eating.  also my guy still loves his milk first thing when waking and I didn'tknow if i should be giving him breakfast when he gets up or milk and his b/fast 30min-1hr later which is what I was doing.
