Baby due any day...
« on: November 03, 2006, 18:56:18 pm »
Hi, I am new to these message boards, so still find my way round, but really impressed with the advice I have been reading so far.  I am due to have my baby any day as he was due on 2nd November and would like to start the EASY routine straight away, but just have a couple of questions to start with,
1) is it best to get the baby to have his daytime naps upstairs in his crib rather than downstairs in either the swing/bouncer or carrycot
2) what sort of activity do you do after the feed with a newborn, is it a case of talking to him for a short time before putting down for a nap.
Thank you, Suzie.

Hi Suzie,

Good luck with the birth of your baby, I hope it all goes well.

Activity for newborns can simply be just changing their diaper, and talking to them.

Start the EASY thing straight away from day 1 if you can.  I wish I had.

If you can get your baby into his crib from Day 1 I recommend it as I have seen so many people having problems getting their babies in cribs, because they have become so used to sleeping around their parents, or in swings/bouncers and so on.  Start as you mean to go on and stick with it.

My baby slept downstairs all the time, with us, because I had a C section, and couldnt keep going up and down the stairs, so when it came time to put him in his crib in his own room we had a bit of a battle.  He sleeps in his own room fine now, but I wish I had put him up there from the beginning to save him the distress of suddenly being moved bless him.

Thank you for coming back to me, that helps a lot.  I'm sure I will be back soon with more questions either before or after the birth.

Thanks again
Suzie

Suzie-

Make sure you check out the Oct/Nov 06 babies birth club...come on over and join us!
https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=75592.0
I did EASY from birth with my DS and the same with DD, who's now 2.5 wks. From the start, the best thing to do is wake your baby to eat during the day. You might find he falls into an EASY routine on his own with little prompting from you. That's what happened with my DS. As your baby gets older, you can start giving a little A time after each feed. For a newborn, A time is usually nothing more than a diaper change, depending on how long feeding takes. As he gets older, you can build in more and more A time...simple stuff like talking to him or giving him something to stare at.

Hope to see you in the birth club thread! Good luck!

A bit of advice I wish I had known was that up to 3months old  baby should be awake only 1 to 1 1/2 hours at a time. I was keeping my now 5month old up 2 hours, sometimes more as I was misreading his tired cries as ones of boredom or hunger. I used to wonder why he had trouble going to sleep!
