I have a nanny that watches her in my moms house. My mom works from home, so i feel more at ease with that arrangement.(i went back to work after 8 weeks  :-[) I don't know if my LO is on a "routine" rather than schedule, or if her day is too flexible. I was insistent that my nanny not feed her before 3 hrs but to go longer if my LO seemed happy. She was also instructed to nap her every 2 hrs so that she didn't become overtired which was happening in the beginning. So it turns out to be 3 naps a day sometimes 4 if her naps are mainly short. I don't know what to do about her nights, its tough. Any advice?

At 5 months you should really be trying to get your lo onto the 4 hour EASY.

It could be that because she is napping so much in the day, that is why her nights are not as good.

On the 4 hour EASY, your lo should be having 2 good sleeps and 1 cat nap.  Your 4 hour EASY should look something like this:-

E - 7:00
A -
S - 9:00 1 1/2 hours - 2 Hours

E - 11:00
A
S - 1:00 - 1 1/2 - 2 hours

E - 3:00
A
S - 5:00 / 5:30 a cat nap of about 45 minutes

E - 6:00 Clusterfed
A - Bath etc (6:30)
E - 7:00
S - Sleep

Dreafeed around 10 / 11 - if you do a dreamfeed.

Hope this info helps.

Thanks Paula, Im going to try to work on switching her over to 4 hr easy, i guess il going to try to increase it with 15 min increments so it doesnt upset her too much.

I have been trying the DF, however some nights she wont take it, like last nite, so i guess it was kind of a W2S at 11 pm, she woke at 3am and then 6:45, which was when she started her day.

About her naps... she sometimes is very tired after 1 1/2 hrs. of E & A time, I try hard to get her asleep before she is overtired, what do u suggest??

Might be worth while to go with a 3.5 hour EASY first then, and then work on increasing her A time to  be able to get to the 4 hour.

You could start with 3.25 and then move closer to 3.5.

Hey, so i tried today to do a 3.5 hr easy, this is her day so far...

woke at 6:45
E - 7:30
A
S - 9:15-10:40

E - 10:55 6oz.
A
S - 1:25 - 2:00

E - 2:30 - 8 oz.
A
S - 3:35 - 5:10

she catnapped at her second nap rather than 3rd. Its now 6pm my time and hasn't eaten since 2:30, ill see if she makes it till 6:30. Oe is that incorrect? should they all be 3.5 or all 4hr in the transition or can be either or? Any advice guys???????? im a clueless 1st time working mom, lots of strikes against me  :(

You can vary between the 3.5 hour and 4 hour easy if your lo is able to take it.

Just try to tank up by clusterfeeding before bed to make sure she gets more calories in her.

The dreamfeed is usually dropped by 7 months when your lo is fully established on solids.

Thanks Paula!

I was starting her on solids now with cereal (a lil early at 5 mts), but she is getting constipated, i thought i should stop it maybe give it once or twice a week bec she loves it  :)
spoke to my dr a few min ago, he said not to cut it out, but to give it with veggies (introduce her to more solids?????) and perhaps to give her water as well to help her out.  I thought i should stop all solids and wait i asked him that and he said thats not necessary.
any opinions on this info? advice or suggestions?

Paula, thanks for your advice, i was asking on a diff board but maybe u can explain s/t about w2S, whats this thing with holding down the baby to keep them from waking up from their jolts? Also if my LO has a DF and then wakes up at abt 3:30 - 4 for a short feeding, should i leave it be or should i expect her not wake up at all after DF?

Are you using rice cereal?  If so this can be very constipating.  My DS suffered terribly when we introduced rice cereal to him.  It is up to you what you decide, but I would definitely suggest cutting out the rice cereal - if you want to persue the solids, I would offer something different - perhaps try introducing a fruit puree - this may help with the constipation.  Also if your lo is really suffering with the constipation, you could offer her a small amount of watered down orange juice or prune juice - this could help her or even extra water.

The W2S helps your lo transition into a deeper sleep.  You go in just before the 30/45 minute mark and place your hand gently on them and when they jolt you can calm them and it helps them to go into a deeper sleep.  Have a look at this link, it will give you more info:-

Let us know how your DD gets on with the constipation - poor baby  :(

Hey Paula, DD is thankfully not constipated anymore. Yayyy!  ;D
So u think I should cut out the cereal completely? Shouldn't re-introduce it in a few days?? I feel like i should bec she enjoyed it so much, perhaps give it with some water to follow?
My dr said not to offer her only fruit bec then she wont eat veggies.
Sould i mix the fruit with the cereal?
I know I started the solids a little early, thats why as soon as i saw her struggling i stopped right away, but she is 5.5 mts now and she likes the solids and always watches me eat which they say is a sign...

If the Rice Cereal is constipating your lo, I would not introduce it again.

If you think that your lo is ready to go onto solids, then I would try introducing her straight onto veggies.  Just remember to stick to one particular food for at least 3 days to ensure that she does not have any reactions to it.

I would not only introduce veggies though, definitely try her on fruit too as that will also help with any constipation issues.

Ok I'll try fruits and veggies, thanks for your input. I bought that mesh bag thing, so perhaps ill give her that as well.

Someone mentioned to me the other day that once you feed your LO from one of those jars they have to be thrown out because of bacteria, is that true? I thought you can save it for 2-3 days.

Also, I have a question, how do you get you lilypie to automatically attach itself to all your posts?

You can keep a jar in the fridge for 24 hours.  When we fed our DS jars, we used to spoon out the amount we needed into his bowl and put the jar sealed in the fridge.

With regards to the Lillypie.  Once you have set it up on their website, you need to copy the code they give you (the one in the second box) and paste it in your profile.
