routine from just FF to solids
« on: November 07, 2006, 08:40:47 am »
I have a 4 and a half month old daughter.  Although I don't intend on feeding her solids yet, I'm trying to think in advance on how the hell to do it!

Unless shes ready for it sooner I wasn't going to give her solids until about 6 months old.

But I'm getting myself in a bit of a muddle on when I should feed her solids and when I should feed her milk!

At the moment she is on a 4 hour EASY routine.

when solids are introduced are they before or after the bottle feed?
Is it best to introduce one meal for a few days then a second meal?
I'm getting myself on a right muddle as I'm worried if I give her milk first, this will fill her up and she won't want to try solids.  But if I give her the solids first I'm also concerned that as its new to her and more than likely hungry(!) that she'll get frustrated and wont want solids!

How did you do it?

would appreciate any replies many thanks in advance

Sorry forgot to say

When we eat our dinner she is really interested and opens her mouth like a goldfish!  she also has the ability to grab things and shove them in her mouth.

is this a sign that she is ready for solids or is it still too soon.

by the way she  does not wake in the night for a feed

I would hold of on solids at this age if she is happy having her milk every 4hrs then that is fine. As for starting solids most start with the mid morning feed that way you have to time to observe for any reactions. So if you are feeding 7,11,3&7 start the first solids meal an hour after the 11am feed. It is best to give solids after milk that way they are still getting all their bulk intake from it. Start with 1 meal for a few weeks and see how it goes i always believe that babies will let you know that they are ready for a 2nd or 3rd meal.
Good luck
