FYI- 5 min Feaders
« on: November 07, 2006, 12:12:48 pm »
I was a frantic mothers with a 5 min feader,  I gave up breast feeding because of the constant worry that she wasn't getting enough. My HV also kept swearing that there was no way she could get enough in 5 mins of sucking!
She is now 5.5 mo and I have just regretfully moved to formula, and after some shouting and wriggling and some small feeds, tried a fast flow teat. She can actually put away 7 oz of formula very happily in 5 mins!!!!
So just thought you exasperated and lucky breastfeeding mothers know!

Both of my girls were very efficient eaters, my first never took a feed longer than 5 minutes, yet gained 3 lbs in her first month.

I am so sorry about the advice from your HV.  Please don't regret your decision to move to formula, you have done well for your dd!

Proud to have breastfed for a combined total of 35 months

I'm so sorry too.  :(
At that age Sam was getting a full feed in around that time and putting on weight like nobody's business.
I wish wish wish HVs had proper breastfeeding training as they spend so much time talking about it. You did the best you could based on what you were told and you were trying to do the best for her - you can't do anymore.
