Dressing your toddler in winter question
« on: November 14, 2006, 11:52:07 am »
Hi everyone :) so I am in Florida and I rarely think of more than needing to put my dd into a long sleeves, a sweater or fleece vest, warm pants and a hat. We are heading to the mountains for thanksgiving and I am wondering what you all put on your 18 month old when it's 30 degrees F (-1 C) at night and 50 (10 C) during the day (mostly sunny).

TIA

Beata

Well that is typical British temperatures lol i usually put my kids in thick trousers, thick socks, boots, a t-shirt with a jumper (sweater) and a padded jacket and a hat and gloves and scarf. Oh and then if they are in their buggy and not running around i put a thick blanket around them or cosytoes. And for night time i dress them in an all in one suit or thick pjs and warm socks, and have the heating on... HTHs xxx

Yep, that's about right for Britain (actually it sounds quite nice for Winter) :)

In bed, ds wears his vest (pop at the crotch onesie - short sleeves), pyjama top (long sleeve), pyjama bottoms, socks, and his gro-bag.

Daytime - he always has a vest on in Winter (the onesie), and then on top it depends on what we're doing -

Indoors (with the heating on), he'll just have on a long-sleeve top, jeans/warm trousers/tracksuit bottoms, and socks.

Outdoors, long-sleeve top, thick trousers, warm socks, wellies (gumboots in the US?) or trainers, fleece top on top and then either a thick coat on top, or a windcheater (like a wind-proof jacket). Rain or shine, he'll always have a hat on - he doesn't have much hair so his head needs to stay warm. Gloves are a big no-no here, you'd think I was trying to torture him ::), but they are good if you can get them to stay on. Like Katie says, a blanket if he's in the pram and not running about. Here's a picture I've posted recently that might illustrate https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=76712.msg638739#msg638739.

You can also get little bodywarmers (like padded waistcoats), which are pretty useful.

HTH :)

We live in Nebraska, and that's exactly what the weather is like here now. Tyler sleeps in regular long sleeved jammies and pants, but when he was younger, he slept in footed fleece pajamas. We keep the house pretty warm at night, though. During the day, just jeans or cargo pants and a long sleeved shirt. When he goes outside, it depends on how long he'll be out there and whether the sun's out, wind's blowing, etc. If it's a warm 50 out, he can just wear a fleece jacket. If it's chilly, he'll wear a fleece cap, fleece mittens, and ski jacket with a hood (in case he keeps yanking his hat off). When he was your LO's age, we also used a fleece bundle-me in the stroller.
