7 month old - need a bit of advice please
« on: November 14, 2006, 14:28:30 pm »
Hi

My little one is 7 months this week and I just wanted some advice on his routine.

His routine is as follows;

6am wake 8oz bottle
7 am breakfast & water
8 am nap ( 1hour 30 mins)
10 am snack & 6 oz bottle
12pm nap (45 mins to 1 hour)
1 pm lunch
2pm bottle 5 oz
4 pm nap ( 30 mins max)
4.45 tea and water
6.30 bath
7pm bed and 8 oz bottle

I have two issues.  Number one I am trying to reduce the mid-morning bottle as my Health Visitor said that my LO should now only have 3 bottles a day and eat snacks.  However, I give him fruit and yoghurt as a snack and he still drinks the milk after and eats a good lunch but he dwindles a bit by tea time.  Do you think I should just continue to reduce the amount of oz I give him at 10 am??  He is 20lbs and was 10lbs 1 oz when he was born so he is a big boy.

My second issue is nap times.   It seems now that in the day he can keep awake over 2 hours - however he seems ready for his mid-morning sleep 2 hours after he wakes.   Should I now try and keep him up for 2.5 hours before putting him down for a sleep?  I would just like to know what I'm working towards as we are in that transistional stage.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Emma

Hi Emma  ;D

What do you mean by he dwindles by tea time?  Is he starving or tired?  When our doctor recommened 3 botles a day we went cold turkey. Mainly beacuse ds is spirited and it worked best for him to have one bad day and then have forgotten it than to slowly wean him.  My recommendation is to follow your baby's personality and do what seems best for him.  ;)

As for his am nap.  Babies have the tendency to get sleepy sooner and sleep more in the am because that nap is basically an extension of their nighttime sleep.  Try to keep him up a little noger and see how he handles it. If it's tough on him then nudge that A time by little increments every few days until he adjusts.  I'm sure he'll do fine.

Hi Beca ::)

By dwindles I mean he isn't really interested in eating much by tea time - he has normally had a nap before tea so isn't tired he just prefers to snack i.e has some toast or a yoghurt but isn't interested in a meal.   Anyway since my last post he has a stomach bug so I have really cut down on the milk in the day as this was making it worse ( the doctor said to do this).

I will try and extend his activity time in the morning and see how we get on.

Thanks very much for your help
Emma  :)
