waking 5-6 times a night - help!
« on: November 14, 2006, 19:17:21 pm »
Please help!
Here are the breif stats.  My 5mo. has finally got rid of thrush for the 4th time.  (I felt sorry for her and kept soothing her at night) now she is healthy and she still continues to wake up.  Its like clock work most of the time.
7:30 wake up eat (cereal/fruit/5oz bottle)
Activity
9:00 nap (1-1 1/2hrs)
11:00 Eat (7oz bottle)
Activty
1:00 Nap (1 1/2 - 2 hrs)
Activity
3:00 Eat (7oz bottle)
Activity
4:00 Nap
5:30 eat (veggie/fruit/5oz bottle)
Activity
6:30 bath -bed (goes down great-don't hear a peep)
DF 10pm

Then the games begin about 2am.  I wait a couple of minutes (no self-soothing) I re-swaddle put in soother. (I don't even pick her up)  Again this repeats at 3, 4, 5,6 am.
Just a note she has been rolling over like crazy for about 2 weeks.  This could be a related issue.

Should I try the wake to sleep mentioned in the book?
Should I try to let her cry it out and wake the entire house?
Help Please,
Kim

Hi

I have much the same problem with my 20 week old - loads of night wakings.  She is able to roll one way, but not the other so wakes up and gets stuck!!  I am trying to teach her to roll the other way with no success.  Sorry don't have any solutions, but thought I'd let you know you are not alone!!

Perhaps. If she's waking at the same times (or very close) then that might help.

Absolutely not. BW does not support CIO in any way as it goes against everything Tracy believed and the core of BW philosophy. All that CIO will teach her is that you won't be there when she needs you. Surely that's not what you want.

Your routine is a little inconsistent in that there's quite different spaces of time between cycles. I think it might help for you to switch to a normal 4 hour EASY.

You poor things, we went through a similar time when my son was 5 months old, for us it was the swaddle that was the issue, he really wanted to have his arms out, yet when he did he woke himself up. All the advice I was given was to keep re swaddling in bigger wraps and really firm, it did not help us and I eventually decided to try the sleeping bags. It took about 4 days but now he sleeps really well, he still wakes once in the night for a feed (we are working on that) but generally his sleeping is MUCH better. Don't know if this helps you at all but it will get better!!!! Goodluck

Things are getting better.  We were out visiting friends last night so when we got home 11:30 we disturbed her sleep. (kind of the wake to sleep outlined in book)  Anyway she didn't wake until 6:30am!  AMAZING!!!  I'll try this a couple more nights. (the books says about 3 nights)
