Help with EASY @ 5 weeks ... new to this!!!
« on: November 15, 2006, 14:58:36 pm »
Hi there my little boy is 5 weeks tomorrow and we are starting to implement EASY. LO is very good at EASY during the day up till evening and then it all goes wrong!!

Today he fed @ 7:30 and was sleeping in moses basket by 9 till 10:30.

E @ 10:30
S 12:15 - 1:30

E @ 1:30
S Just dropping off now.

The problem i'm having is with cluster feeding in the evening and his feed in the night. Last night he fed at 5pm had bath at 6 and then was fast asleep by 6:45 ish... so i woke him at 8 and then again at 10:30... so really 8 was a dream feed too!! He slept from 11:15ish to 3:15 ish (woke a few times before but he took his dummy and went back to sleep) but whenever he wakes in the night at this time it takes me almost 2hrs to settle him back down. It's almost like he expects the A part of EASY in the night too!! Is this normal or am i just expecting too much from him?!!

What should i do after i feed him today at 4:30?

Also i have to wake him from every sleep in the day?

Any advice would be greatly received!!!

Luce x :)

Hi Luce and welcome to BW!!!  ;D ;D ;D

Most babies don't really respond to a routine until 6 weeks of age.  Before that you're basically going through the motions so hw starts to get an idea once he's 6 weeks.  At 5 weeks he will basically eat and sleep most of the day with a rather short A time.  As for the clusterfeed, I think it would be best to feed him at 5 then again at 7 right before he goes to bed and then do the dreamfeed at 10-10:30.

When my ds was as young as yours our doctor recommend to not make eye contact or talk to him in any way during the night. Lights were to stay off or as low as possible and everything had to be done slowly and gently. So as to send the message that we don't interact at nighttime.  Maybe this can help you too.  ;)

For the most part remeber your baby is still very young and is still getting used to being in the outside world  :D

I have a 4 wk old DD, so we're in the same boat. I also did BW with my DS when he was a newborn, and like Beca said, they really don't get into a routine until 6-8 wks. Until then, you basically just try to stick with consistent feeding times during the day, waking from naps or feeding earlier if needed. I also try to make sure she doesn't fall asleep while feeding, even if it means she just opens her eyes for a few seconds after eating. And unsettled cranky periods are totally normal, it just sucks when they happen during the night! At this age, it's almost like they have 2 dreamfeeds...that one at 8 and the one at 11. Once they start having more A time, it will become more like cluster feeding, KWIM?
