Update...We had our visit at the breastfeeding clinic. The little monkey went and gained 6 ounces in the last week. Isn't that just the way these babies seem to work? Always putting on a show at the most inopportune moments. It took him 4 weeks to gain the last 6 ounces.
They were fantastic at the clinic. They confirmed that he is latching properly and feeding just fine. They discussed maybe starting solids a bit early. We are going to see how this next week goes before making that decision. They increased my Motillium dosage again just to ensure there is enough milk for him. They even spoke to me about formula supplementing. They know I want to try to keep it to a minimum but it was refreshing to have doctors and nurses speak about it like it wasn't an evil thing to do. I agree that breastfeeding is best but it has been pushed on me so hard that every time he got a bottle of formula I felt tremendous guilt. I think the push for breastfeeding goes a little too far sometimes and makes the experience so stressful for some moms. Especially moms like me who have had such difficulties from the beginning.
Anyway, I am doing my best to not supplement over this next week to ensure I have an accurate measurement of his weight gain on breastmilk. Based upon that I can work with the doctors on alternatives if needed. They did say he is a little skinny for a baby. He doesn't have the chubby arms and thighs that most babies have. But otherwise he looks healthy. I think he makes up for it all in his chubby cheeks. With clothes on you would never know how tiny he is because he has chipmunk cheeks.
