head thrashing as self soother?
« on: November 19, 2006, 05:03:54 am »
Does anyone else's LO thrash their head from side to side - it looks like DS is whipping his head back and forth to say 'no' - to help self soothe? He doesn't do it all the time, but I have seen it come and go and it is really weird to me. I would think that his neck and/or head would hurt afterward. It makes me think of a headbanger! Is this ok? I have never heard of it before.

My son did that both before falling asleep and before waking. It was so funny!  I always thought "he's thinking 'No no I won't wake/sleep!'"
so I guess it could be a self soother. Just watch that bald spot grow!  Sam's was HUGE thanks to head thrashing!

Keri ~ Luke does this too, not all the time and it started just as he got more mobile as well.  I was thinking it was more kind of like he was trying to keep himself awake, like if he didn't 'rest his head' he wouldnt' go to sleep! He doesn't do it so often now though but yes, he did start to develop a bald spot on the back of his head as well!!  ;D
