2.5 good transition to big girl bed BUT.....
« on: November 20, 2006, 16:56:05 pm »
Hi
Megan's transition to the big girl's bed and new room (in lots of time for LO#2 to take over the nursery) has been really good, she's been really positive. In the first week she lost her "muzzie" that she sleeps with a couple of times in the middle of the night and woke up at ninety degrees to her original position once. So we would go in, sort her out, leave the room and she'd go back to sleep. Then for a couple of weeks she would sleep straight through without us going into her.
Fast forward to this weekend and in the last 3 nights, we've had to go in to her AT LEAST twice a night, either for lost muzzies (which I know I can solve by pinning to her duvet) or due to her turning around. Our interaction with her is minimal (we don't say a word, apart from shush) and she goes back off to sleep straightaway, but its KILLING me!! And I've very worried that our fantastic "through the night" sleeper is starting to get into a habit of waking and finding an excuse to get us into her room.
My main question is: what can I do to stop her ending up with her head down the bed and her bottom on the pillow OR how do I teach her to turn herself around? (I'm afraid we don't bother at 3 am, we just do it for her and get back to bed asap!)
Any suggestions?

Does it bother her if she gets turned around? If not, you might just let her be. Tyler's been in a big boy bed for over 6 mo and I have yet to figure out how to get him sleeping the "right" way all night. It doesn't bother him, so we just let him sleep in whatever weird position he's in. For the lost muzzies, you've got a great idea about pinning it to her duvet, or you could just have a bunch of them that you put in bed with her.

I am just embarking on this journey  ::) but could you "practice" turning around during the day? We haven't put Ella into her new bed yet but it's in her room and dh has been showing her how to pull her covers up and such...  :-\

Hi Melissa, no, it doesn't bother us in the slightest that she turns herself around, if only she would stay asleep. But she wakes and then it bothers her...
Sharon, yes, that's a fab idea, we actually did that last night before bed. We made a game of turn around.....and then find your pillow again, which she did happily and really enjoyed herself. As luck would have it, she slept right through last night as still as a rock :), but am hoping if we keep "practicing" she will turn herself around in the middle of the night too. She did say however, that if she managed to find her pillow again she would call out "Mummy, I did it"!, which kind of defeats the object..... ::)   ;D

I tuck Mikey into his bed on a night, tuck the sheet or duvet down the sides of the bed and hes still comfy but cant turn around, if he does escape the blankets and turns around i usually leave him, unless hes about to fall out obviously, but hes been quite good with it, i say if the turning round doesnt bother her then just leave her to it, when i was little(8-9yr old) i would sometimes wake up and be upside down, ive always been a wriggly sleeper, i still am! lol
