How much awake time for 10 month old
« on: November 21, 2006, 15:11:01 pm »
How long should my 10 month old stay awake after he wakes? He is now waking at 6:00 a.m. and goes to sleep about 2 to 2.5 hours later. Then stays up for 3 hours and then can only go four hours after his second nap. Which means he is ready for bed at 6:00 and wakes up at 5:30 when he does this. How long can he stay awake so that I can extend the naps and awake time so he will go to sleep later?

Hi there
my lo goes 3 hrs from waking to first nap (45 mins long), then 3.75 hrs till next nap (90mins long) then 3.5 hrs till bedtime, so our day looks something like this:
6.30am wake
9.30 sleep
10.15 wake
2pm sleep
3.30pm wake
7pm bed

Her longest A time has always been in the middle of the day- she really can't do any more than 3.5 hrs before bedtime.
Having said all that, we are in our third week of random early wakings  :P so if she wakes at 5.30 am like she did today, I will let her have a full 90 minute nap in the morning to catch up on some more sleep.

We do around 2.75 in the AM, and 3-3.25 in the PM, then 3 hours before bed.

OUr day looks like this
7:30 am wake
10:15 nap
11:15 wake (I'm waking him after an hour now)

2:30 nap  (2 hours) NO matter what time he goes down for nap, I always make sure he's up by 4:30 so can get to bed by 7:30

7:30 pm bed.

You might try extending that AM awake time by a little bit. LOs can show sleepy signs out of habit, and mornings they often seem sleepy no matter what. Try extending by 15 minutes and see what happens. We were having night waking problems, and keeping that AM nap limited to 1 hour seems to be working for us. He would sleep 2 hours in the am if I let him.

Thanks for the advice. I am going to try and extend that am wake time to 2.75 hours and see how that goes.

Hey there. I've wondered this too with my 10 month old. It seems like we vary from 2-3 hours. One awake time is usually longer than the other. But then one nap can be longer than the other as well.
