Books for Baby
« on: November 22, 2006, 03:47:02 am »
Hopefully i'm posting this thread in the right area but I was wondering if anyone has started a thread about recommended baby books. My LO is an avid reader and I've been going thru books like crazy! She's still young but she has her favourites already.
Her favourites are: Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?
Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You?
                           Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb
                            Goodnight Moon

They are pretty classic...but she really likes repetitive books at this stage  :D

got a book from the library recently...
"Great Books for Babies and Toddlers"
(More than 500 recommended books for your child's first three years.)
by Kathleen Odean (Former Chair of the Newbery Award Committee)

Haven't really had much time to look at it, as DS has been high maintenance for a couple weeks. But it looks like it has a lot of good info.

"Theres a cow in the cabbage patch" has been a favourite for 5 months or so, we also like "Moo, Baa, La La La", and then anything with textures or hide panels are good:

Poppy Cat
Diggers (about JCBs)
Thats not my monster
Thats not my car

plus Phoebe loves animals so anything with an animal in is a winner by default

We have loads of books here but the ones that my babies (under1) love best are the Helen Oxenbury books, she has a few different ones but we love the set of four Dressing,Playing,Working,Friends.  They arer pictures only and not too much to take in all at once.

Karen Katz books are a big hit. Marshall loves "where is baby's belly button" he also loves anything with flaps he can open and close, and any of the touch and feel books. He's also really captivated by the Peter Rabbit pop up book that came out recently, but I have to hold it far away so he doesn't destroy it! :)

You should watch out for books by Lucy Cousins , (Maisy Mouse) they are extremely colourful but outlined in black so Babies love them !!
Also, ""The hungry caterpillar was a huge hit during ds first year.
Dk, publishers do a lovely range of books called, "Thats not my Teddy" etc . They introduce textures and have lovely pictures.
" Guess how much I love you ",was the book we read every night to ds for his first year and also "Who do you Love" (my fav) its about a little cat getting ready for bed and telling her mum who she loves  :-*
Happy reading :)

I love Guess how much I love you, it's another of our favourites.  Has anyone read 'The Jolly Postman and other peoples letters' Fantastic for 3 years and over, I think there is a Christmas one out now.  We also love A little bit of Winter, so sweet.

We have a great selection of books as my SIL is a Librarian and she keeps giving us books, many of them signed by the Authors.

There is a lovely range that I got from the Bookstart, they are photographs of babies and made by Campbell Books.  They are titled This little Baby......

I just started recently going to our public library and hitting their baby section.  I went there while everyone was at work/school, so one of the librarians spent like 20-30 mins with us.  We got a stack of books that dd just loves.

I have to admit though, some of them were kind of funky so I made sure to wipe them down with disinfectant.  Mimi looks at the pics then tries to eat the book.  ::)

The first book that DS loved was "Baby Faces" by DK Books. It's just a book of babies with different expressions on their faces. He was absolutely fascinated by them. The book is now in pieces because it's so loved by him. He also loves the Sandra Boynton books.
