watering down a bottle

I was reading the plan in the FAQ about every three nights reducing the amount of milk and increasing the amount of water. I have decided to try this, and I am going to express breastmilk before i go to bed because I've read that bm is good for something like 6 hours at room temp. But my question is how I give it to the baby. Do I take him out of the crib or just leave him in the crib? If I leave him in the crib will that result in creating a sleep prop because he'll probably fall asleep while sucking? If I take him out of the crib he'll probably wake up some as I put him back in, but will the holding become something of a prop?

I have to confess, with my 9mo ds if I have to feed him during the night (rarely) I leave him in the cot.  From experience if I lift him he thinks he's getting up and mummy's going to play with him! Also, if he nods off at least I don't have to move him (and given he's 12kgs that's getting a bit awkward).

Good luck with the watering down - I did this as well with my DS and had great success, it only took 4 days  ;D 

As for leaving him in the cot or not... that's a tough one. Some people feel it's a danger to feed laying down. Others don't. Just make sure you have all the facts and make an informed decision.

How old is your LO?

The biggest factors not to feed in the crib are

Ear infections
Chokeing
its messy since the bottles often leak and many babies are messy eaters
and it can quickly become a habbit.

The choice is your's just make the one you feel comfortable with.

DD was hard to feed after 6 months I always had to have her in the bouncy chair or something that was angled as she just wouldn't eat in my arms. We avoided the crib even at night. I brought the bouncer in her room and fed her there if she ate (usually at bedtime for us, and the odd night waking)

I never knew untill someone else here had told me. I hadn't thought if it, but after they told me it makes sence.
