3.5 hr easy question
« on: November 24, 2006, 22:02:35 pm »
just recently we started a 3.5 hr easy-which bumped out the late day cat-nap.  Is this right?  He is a week shy of 4 mos, and started extending A times, so we adjusted the schedule.  Also, this bumped his 5 bottles a day to only 4 bottles-i haven't noticed that he is any hungrier yet.  Any advice on 3.5 hr EASY scheduling?  I hope were on the right track.  Thx.  :)

Hi jacksmom
This was our 3.5hr schedule at that age
7am BF
9.00 nap
10.30 BF
12.30 nap
2.00 BF
4.00 catnap
4.45/5.00 wake up some quiet A time
5.30 BF
6.00 Bath
6.30 bedtime routine
7pm bedtime
10.30 DF
So if your not dreamfeeding you will be down to 4 bottles a day.  But I would say that he should almost definitely still have a catnap unless he is able to stay awake for much longer A time than average for his age.  My LO is nearly 8months and is only now just starting to drop the catnap.

This is what our 3.5 hour schedule looked like.

7am – eat
8:30 in bed by 8:30
Wakes at 10:15
10:30 eat
11:45am – in bed by 11:45
Wakes at 1:15-1:30pm
2pm eat
2:45 in bed by 2:45pm (or 3pm if she woke at 1:30, move all ahead by 15 mins)
Wakes at 4:15pm (4:30)
5:30 eat (this stays the same)
5:45 nap in bed by 5:50pm (cat nap)
wake at 6:30 (ish)
bed by 7:45 or 8pm

While the activity time varies between every lo, it looks like our lo's are the same age and my daughter can only stand 1.5 hours awake time right now.

hi Jacks mom.

so what does you routine look like at the moment?

and remember, changing routines shouldn't mean your lol is getting less milk because of cutting one bottle- you should up the amounts of milk in the rest of the bottles. you're not on solids yet right?

please post your routine and the amounts of formula your feeding LO with.

ok, thanks for responding everyone.  I've increased his bottles from about 6oz to 7oz, to help make up for that 5th bottle.  DS has reflux, so its hard to fill him up to the brim because he brings so much back up!! Here is our routine, although it can vary if we start late.
8:30am up eat 7oz bottle, medicine
830-10-1015 A time
10:30-12pm S
12pm eat 7oz
12pm-1:30/145 A time
2pm-330 Sleep
330pm eat 7oz
330-5/515 A time
530-7pm sleep
7pm 7oz bottle& medicine
7-8  A time-bath, pajamas etc
in bed by 830pm for the night-sometimes waking up because he's flipped over~

Please give me any feedback you can.  Are we doing this right?  I read the others routines too.
Thx..Hilary

Your routine looks good.  Does it seem to be working for you and Jack?

Hi
I can now see why you say hes dropped the catnap as all 3 naps are Upton 1.5hrs long, thats absolutely fine, you will probably find that gradually the last nap of the day will come down in time and becomes the catnap, which is more in line with the 4hr easy, that being 2 good naps and a catnap.  At least thats what happened with my LO.
Your routine looks great.

I feel better now that i'm reassured that our routine is ok.  It seems to be working, i think.  The last few mornings, i could hear him awake and "talking" about an hour earlier than wake up time.  It's like he dozes until time to get up.  Do they do that?  He also seems fussier during A times lately, as if he's bored...needing more direct play with me the whole time-i don't know, just more fussy during A time than he used to be.  I feel like were on the right track with our routine, and you ladies seem to agree. Thanks so much for the feedback-i appreciate it!! :) :)

My DS still wakes in the early hours and has a chat to himself and then doses until it is time to get up.  It is perfectly normal.

It does sound like she may want a little more interaction during A time.  Just watch her cues, to make sure she does not become overtired.

so does my dd.

and about A time- well yes, they tend to get 'bored' and need more interaction as they are more and more aware of the world around and want to be a part of it :)

ok, great. We just introduced the exersaucer, propping him up in it--he loves it, and is so happy to bounce.  I now this may not be the spot to post, but just one more quick question.  He sleeps on his tummy, and in the wee hors of the morning he has been flipping on his back, and unable to get back to sleep this way...so evevtually i quietly go in and flip him, usually more than once.  Is this okay to do?  I would like for him to work this out on his own, but it is hard when you want to get back to sleep, plus it interferes with his night rest.  What do you suggest I do?   Thanks again, Hilary    So far so good on our 3.5 hr routine.  When do lo's generally need to bump up to the 4 hr one?

hi Hilary.

great 3,5 hrs routine is working for you.

I think you will see when he's ready for 4 hrs- he may start napping shorter and be harder to put down and may not be as hungry at 3,5 hrs mark as until then.
here's the link to transition from 3 to 4 hrs and signs of being ready :)

re tummy sleeping and not being able to flip back by himself- that's perfectly normal, a developmental 'issue' once he can roll back himself you won't have to flip him back over.

Hilary,

That is great news that the 3.5 hour is working for you.

I agree that the tummy thing is developmental and he will soon be able to do it on his own.

Keep us posted on how you get on.

So its perfectly ok to go in and flip him back over?
I know eventually he will do it himself, but im not interfering by flipping him back?
