please help, wakes after 20 min
« on: November 27, 2006, 08:34:09 am »
My LO is 9weeks old, initially I had a lot of trouble getting her to nap, but now she is taking them. A couple of weeks ago, she has started to stir around 30-45min, so i always stayed with her, and started shush patting again at that time, and mostly she would go back to sleep, not as peaceful as bf, but she will sleep. So I usually end up  staying with her the entire nap, bc if I do not catch her stirs quick enough, she wakes entirely. But now, she starts squirming at around 30min, and then starts farting and wakes herself up entirely( my daughter farts really loud, my friends and mother says that they have never heard a baby fart so loud) sometimes I can get her to sleep again if I pick her up and shush pat again, other times she refuses and just cries, and I end up feeding her early (she's on 3h easy). I know she is not hungry, bc if I can get her back to sleep, she will sleep over her 3h routine if I don't wake her. please help, Anneke :'(

Are you swaddling her? Could she have any food intolerances that are causing her to be so gassy and interrupt her naps?

Does she seem in discomfort as well? If so, you may want to think about doing a strict elimination diet for two weeks to see if it improves things - Dr. Sears has a great plan for that on  his website.

The thing is that she is happy as anything when she ia awake, it is just 30min into her naptime that the farting starts, and yes she seems uncomfortable then,

Its a stab in the dark but my wee one had bother with the same sort of thing when she was about 6 weeks and I went on a soya diet no dairy products. It seemed to work but not sure if it was that as we also went to see a chiropractor at the same time, as someone suggested it. She said my wee one had a twisted dyaphram (dont think thats how you spell it!!)likely to be caused by labour, like I say about this time things sorted themselves out.
Don't know if that helps.
I dream of hot cups of tea and delicious cake, long chats with friends and luxurious bubble baths!!

Have you tried gripe water? We swore by it (the Baby Bliss brand) for the first few months.

Hi we had a similar problem and visited both the chiropractor and naturopath. I took dairy and wheat out of my diet completely which made a difference and the naturopath also gave our lo some acidophillous (special version for children-our lo was 12 weeks at the time) which helped her tummy amazingly. She had been having really runny dirty nappies and they stopped after 12 hours. We had visited drs who all said that 'she would grow out of it'.

Although it didn't fix our sleeping problems (our lo who is now 5 mths has not really slept during the day much at all despite our efforts) it did settle her tummy anyway.

Our lo is spirited and has only really begun to show tired signs recently so we had to keep persevering but a settled tummy helped.
