Ditching bottles for sippy cups - 12 months old
« on: November 27, 2006, 20:07:32 pm »
Just when you think you've got the hang of it...everything changes!! Isn't that what Tracy says! :)

Anyway, I need some advice on how to transition from bottle to cup for my DS. We only JUST started sleeping through the night, so I'm extremely hesitant to change much, but I know this is a transition that needs to happen and would like to start soon as DS will be moving to toddler room at day care in about 2 weeks, and they don't "do" bottles there!!

He drinks an 8 oz bottle in the AM (cow's milk) and another before bed, and then drinks two 6 oz bottles during the day - after his naps.

I've tried giving him a sippy filled with milk after his AM nap and he'll generally only drink about an ounce of it (I give him this with a snack - teether, crackers, or similar) When that happens, he's STARVING at lunch, eats early and a huge amt. of food!

How have you guys done with this transition? Any tips?

Thanks!!!
Kate

Ok, cool.
I'm glad to know I'm not alone in my reluctance to give up the bottle! Stacey, it looks like our sons are just 2 weeks apart - mine just had his birthday last Thursday! :)
I was worried that if he didn't drink those bottles he wouldn't get enough to eat and would wake up at night!! (I'm scarred for life after our sleep troubles - you actually helped a lot in PU/PD forum) anyway - I've asked day care to reduce his bottles to 6 oz each, and to only give his AM bottle if he takes an AM nap - otherwise, give him a cup of milk for his snack.
Will stick with this program for a week and see how he does!

I keep reading about baby bottle mouth, and am overcome with guilt as DS drinks a bottle after he has brushed his teeth...oh well...I brush them in the morning... :) Can't do everything ;)
