Can't tell if DD is hungry or tiered.
« on: December 02, 2006, 00:17:26 am »
My dd is 13 weeks old.  We've been on the 3hr EASY for a while then she started getting really fusy by the 2hr mark but I can't get her to nap hardly at all any more... and she starts crying like something is wrong so I've resorted to feeding her more freqently.  Is this a growth spurt?  When I finally cave and feed her she acts famished.  This has been going on for 2 weeks.  I wish I knew if she was just tired and not hungry, I just can't tell.  Can any one help?  Thanks.

Joy, do you think that she is becoming a snacker?  It certainly does sound like she is hungry and not tired.  Are you bf'ing or is DD on formula?

Breast feeding, but it's been a living hell since the begining.  I've gone to see 3 Lactation specialists but I'm still in pain.  This feeding more frequently is not helping with the sore nips either.   :'(

Hmmm.  I feel your pain.  I had a hard time getting going with BF in the beginning myself and the lactation specialists weren't all that helpful.  Check out http://www.drjacknewman.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=18&Itemid=42

Could it be that you are sore because DD is not well-latched and therefore not getting enough BM at each nursing?  That would mean that she WOULD need to nurse more frequently as she's not getting enough each time, regardless of how long she is actually on the breast.

Hang in there I know what you are feeling.  Have you tried Lansinol for your sore nipples, it is completely hypoallergenic and natural and you do not have to remove it before breastfeeding it helped with my sore nipples. I would also check the latch.  When she is crying check her tongue if it curls at the sides that is a rooting gesture and could mean she is hungry.  Hope that helps.

Lansinoh, is what we use here. I put it on after EVERY feed even if it feels ok for the first 2 weeks.  She may be getting hungry early because she just isn't getting enough do to the bad latch.  What helped me was someone told me how to latch on...
Get the baby to open up wide then place your nipple to the roof of the babies mouth.  I could visualise it and I've never had another problem.  Good luck!
