Has anyone started EASY at the 3 month mark?
« on: December 08, 2006, 20:47:46 pm »
Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has started with EASY at the 3 month mark, and if so, what was your routine?  I'm trying to find a template to start my lo on, and it hasn't been easy for us.

Oh yah, and if he takes 45 minutes to get to sleep for his nap, then only sleeps for and hour, should I try to put him to sleep again?  Or should I just keep him up until the next nap time?

Going crazy now to keep my sanity later!  ;D

I started easy at 3 months

i tried to implement the standard 3 hour EASY routine

if your LO takes 45 min. to get to nap and then sleeps for an hour, i would then wake them up, even if they are tired. i read i think in her book or somewhere to do that. this way they'll be real tired for the next nap.

its hard work in the beginning but it so worth it.

hang in there and good luck

Well, it's no party....
I have a "snacker" I think, so right now I'm training him to eat every 2 hours, which is quite difficult.  I didnt realize how often I must have been feeding him until I tried to go on a schedule.  I fed every 2 hours yesterday, and really had to hold him off with a lot of screaming until the 2 hours were up sometimes.  By the time the boob came out, he ate like a savage... a full meal off both breasts. He usually eats from just one ( I have about 6 oz from a breast when I pump, more if he sucks). I also have to get him to stop nipping at the breast all night, which will help our night sleep, and our nap times.  So I think it will be slow going for a while, but we're determined, mostly from pure exhaustion, to turn things around.
    Thanks for checking!!!  ;)
Looking forward to the new future!

Have you thought about introducing a pacci to your lo to help with the extra sucking that he wants to do?

He more than likely is crying cause he wants to suck to self sooth, it may not be that he is hungry, just that he needs to suck.

Things will improve, though.  I would not let him cry if he is genuinly hungry, I would feed him at an earlier mark, but definitely suggest trying a pacci.

That is great news that you are getting past the snacking  :)

Paula,
Thanks for the thought.  We have tried literally HUNDREDS of times since his birth to get him to take the paci, but to no avail.  He just won't take it.... and I know he sooths himself with sucking at the breast.  Do you have any ideas on how to get him to take one?  We even tried sugar water with it.... no luck.  He won't take a bottle either.  He's recently found his hand and thumb... but not consistently.  Only when he;s at play, and never if he's upset.  we try holding it in there when he cries, but again, no luck.
   Thanks for the thoughts!

Reyhnsmum,

It took us ages to find a dummy that suited Jacinta.  In the end she liked the cheapest one, which had the biggest teat on the end.  The brand is Happy Baby (thou I'm in Australia so not sure if you have this brand).  Its the type of dummy that is plain round at the front.  I found that with the fancy orthodontic dummies, the teats werent big enough for her to keep in her mouth.
Not sure if this will help you, but worth a try  ;)

We used the NUK dummy and our DS took to it straight away.  They were a bit more expensive, but he loved them, and would not take anything else.

When we first introduced a dummy to our DS he also would not take it, and what I did was when it was in his mouth, I would tap it with my index finger until he was soothed enough and had stop crying and would start sucking.  It took about a week of doing this before he realised, that when we put the dummy in his mouth, he could just start sucking.

Let us know how you get on.

Oh my goodness...

We used to do the tapping thing to get Reyhn to take the paci, and it worked when he was really small... but since our hospital stay, nothing.  I bought a paci today with the ball at the end, thinking he could keep it easier in his mouth.... he chewed on it, then spat it out.... over 10 times.  I'll keep trying though.  He has never taken the nuk brand.  We wished he would, because we got a cool looking one as a gift, and he won't take it.  I also ordered the Soothie brand one online the other day, so when it comes, I'll try that.  I guess it's really popular in the States, as they give them away in the hospitals, and I read some reviews of moms who breastfeed and say their lo won't take any other kind.  So we'll give it a shot.  O don't know why he insists on just chewing it instead of sucking it... so strange.

Ohh,
What brand is that teething thing? Sounds interesting.   I;m still hoping he'll just get used to his thumb.  I'll have to keep reminding him  that it's there!
