Baby snacking
« on: December 10, 2006, 20:56:52 pm »
Hi,

My baby has unfortunately been in the habit of snacking instead of taking full feeds.  Is there a method for getting them on a schedule without a huge struggle?  He also seems to take his largest feeds at night.  So I;ll be trying to turn him around.

      Thanks!! ;D

I had the same problem with my lo.  I would try to extend the time between his feeds by a few min.  usually he got hungrier then.  It took a little while, but he takes full feeds now.  I am not an expert, but that is what worked for me.  Good luck!

The term 'snacking' gets used to describe quite a lot of different things. Can you give us an idea of your current schedule and describe your nights - thanks. :)

well, I did feed on demand, because when I was in the hospital with him, he wasn't gaining and they were threatening formula, so I just kept gibing the boob to get him to gain.  Now that we don't have any problems with gaining, he often feeds every hour to hour and a half.  he'll even wake from naps to suck for a bit, then go back to sleep.  He'll go for a couple of hours, maybe 3, when I put him down at night, but then by about 2:30 , he'll ask for the boob almost every 30 minutes. I pretty ,much don't sleep, because he even wants it during naps. Yesterday during the day, I held him off for 2 hours between feeds, and even if he woke during the nap and wouldn't go to sleep, I'd hold him off till the 2 hour mark.  By then he was screaming up a storm (I got my DH to hold him so I wasn't teasing him), and the when he did eat, he ate off of both breasts fully, which he's never done before.... like he was ravenous.  But last night, fo the sake of some shut eye, I just couldnt hold him off.  I think I'm going to have to though, because it;s cruel to keep perpetuating this.  I'm going to really need my DH's help, which means him taking off work.  I hope it will work.  Lemme know what you think.   THanks!
