Suzanne, we are at exactly the same stage with the bottle vs sippy cup.  DD is also 16 months old.

She will drink water, juice etc out of her sippy, but that is it.  If she even tastes milk from the sippy she spits it out  ::)

Last night I tried a different bottle to try and get her to change, and even then she was having none of it.

Ours is going to be a long transition :-\ as she is so adamant that she is not going to touch any milk out of a sippy.

Hi My lo turned one yesterday and i am determined to get rid of the bottles!!
So this morn he normally has a 7 oz bottle - I put his milk in one type of sippy cup and he drank one oz and the refused anymore - so I put the milk into the sippy cup (has a straw) that he usually drinks his water out of and refused it - so then I put it into a glass, and he drank another 3oz! he is quite good at drinking out of a glass.
I am wondering if this is bad - I am going to the mall today to have a look at different sippy cups and perhaps different cups with no lids - does he have to have a lid on the cup? He has never held his own bottle (just began recently to hold his sippy cup with water) I have no problem helping him to drink the milk from a glass with no lid - any advice is greatly appreciated.

If he drinks well from a cup with no lid, then I would say it is perfectly fine.  It will just be one less transition to do when he is older  ;)  Sounds like he is doing fantastically.

Just thought I would update again...

DD has been doing really well. We have successfully replaced one bottle feed with the straw sippy. Although, it takes me offering it on 2 seperate occassions to get her to drink most of it. And she still will have nothing to do with the cup while she's in the high chair.  ::) So I sit with her in the living room and she rolls around on my lap or walks around me. It's as if she thinks that milk-time is mommy-time. And I do this before I offer lunch and afternoon snack. And if there's any milk left, I mix it in a little bit of cereal and she eats that with dinner. This way she's getting the 20 oz she needs. I haven't really decided when I should start trying to replace the morning bottle yet...I am kind of scared to since she got so upset those few days she saw the sippy first thing in the morning and then would have nothing to do with it for the rest of the day...She just turned 11 months, so there's not a big hurry, right?  :-\

HUGS to Paula and Suzanne. Hope your LOs decide to start drinking milk from their sippys. I spent a month thinking DD was never going to drink out of a sippy and then one day she just decided she would! Maybe that will happen for you gals.

Amy, I wonder if your LO would do well with tupperware cups with the plains lids with slits in them--they are great because they function well without the lids too and they grow with your children...my 3yr od still uses them on a regular basis..

I have just started in the last 1 month transitiong my 10month old...I BF and so far have replaced one BF with formula in a sippy. I am haeving success with the nuby soft spout sippy and we have pretty much never done any bottles. I find that he is not good with controlling the amount...so some sippy cups--like the born free bottle--with the training attatchment seems to flow to fast for him.

JBsMommy, fantastic news, sounds like your lo is doing well.

There is no rush.  Leave things as they for a while and then once she is 100% used to drinking her milk out her sippy, you can try the morning one again.

Debo620 do you have a link to those tuppaware cups?  I will try anything to get my DD to take milk out of a cup?

Thanks for those links  :-*

The look very similar to the cups we are using now, except ours have handles on them.  I think I am just going to have to take the leap and go cold turkey and see how she does  :-\

man at 19 months old, we finally got her to take milk out of one of the born free TRainer cups, which still isn't quite a sippy, but I guess its away from the bottle. I think this cup says 6 months + and there is a 12 month + that I guess is like a regular sippy.

I think I'll join you ladies! Pat is still very young, but I think I may try offering the sippy and see wha the does.
Our problem is that he has never been such a good eater, so I'm afraid he will drink less oz from the sippy b/c he will be "in charge" IYKWIM? I always have to distract him and talk to him and sing to him for him to drain his bottles.   :-\  Any suggestions?

Anyway, I'll be around!!  :)

I too live in a place that i don't think any BW's live. I live in Dubai!
Alexa I am very interested to hear how you lost 19.5kg's I am very envious, today is that start of my trying to shed the baby pounds! I am going to a wedding at the end of May and until then no bread pasta or potatoes for me! Oh and a good walk every day - no time to gym with being a SAHM! and always exhausted when then DH comes home from work!
So any suggestions would be much appreciated!
Oh and it is HOT HOT HOT here too!

We finally got ds to drink milk out of his sippy before bed!  My husband was putting him to bed one evening while I was out for dinner, and he called to tell me that he was trying an experiment.  I was concern when he told me that he had put Hayden to bed with no bottle.  He slept all night, and the next night when I put him to bed I did offer him some whole milk in his sippy before bed and he did drink it, and no NWing!!  Yay!!  Now we will be working on the morning bottle.  When he gets better about eating table foods we will do away with that bottle as well.  I really thought this was going to harder, but I was surprised!!  Thanks for the support!
