I think I bought about 5 or 6 different kinds of sippy cups.  I figured it wasn't too much because I was only buying one (or two if they only came in a two pack) at a time.

We bought 4, I think. We also got an assortment from a family friend with a LO, but didn't even try most of them. My first test was always "can *I* drink easily from it?" Any of the "no-spill" with valves were chucked in the give-away bin.

We started with the Nuby soft spout at 4 mo, when we started solids. Around 7-8 mo, we moved to the old-fashioned "trainer tumbler"... the type that has a spout w/a slit (1st years, I think), and can be used later, w/o the lid. Those don't spill too badly, when he tosses them on the floor. We also, sometimes use the cheap Nuby hard-spout (9oz? about $1 @ walmart), but took out the no-spill valve. (Can't find a pic of these online.)

I get the impression that the no-spill valve is not a good thing?  Does it make it harder for LOs to drink?  I haven't thought about taking the the valve off but might consider it now.

The straw sippy that we have has a no-spill valve in it (that cannot be removed) and I like it.  When we try with regular straws (which the sippy would be if we took out the valve) the fluid comes out too fast for my son and he drinks in very short sips, makes a major mess, or chokes on the fluid (sometimes all three.)

My son loved the sippy cup.  He actually looked forward to drinking out of it.  I bought a Gerber sipping cup and was reluctant to bring it home.

He loved the one with a straw in it.  It was like a big boys and  it had a race car theme.  I don't think that there is anything negative about it except maybe hard to clean

Hello,

My LO also has a straw sippy, but she not keen on drinking her milk from it, just water.  Are your LO's using it for milk, if so how many oz thay take? Are you still using bottle?

Hi Gemma,
we use tupperware sippies with the plain slotted lid for milk
and then I use his straw sippy for water
if we are going out and I am bringing milk---then I put it in the staw sippy (because it is insulated) and he does fine.  this took a bit though.

Does LO have all his oz needed from sippy?  I want LO to have her 20+ oz or she wont sleep, but she takes little from her sippy.

Gemmah, my little guy is 13months now---so we are aiming for 14-16oz or so and he eats solids well.

When we first transitioned, I was doing 5oz with breakfast, 5oz after 2nd nap with light snack----these were from sippy, and then 7oz bottle before bed.

I've just changed things now as to wean the bedtime milk/bottle.

so now:
offer 5oz with each meal(he doesn't always drink it all) and then top up of 4-5oz before bed, next week I will cut the bottle again to 4oz before bed and hopefully he will drink a litlle more at other meal times. also, supper for us is only about 1-11/2 before bed so he's still pretty full from that.

Wow, your lo's drink a ton.  Brendan drinks about 8-12 ounces a day, completely from the straw sippy.  I offer him water throughout also, he usually only drinks a couple of sips.  I have tried increasing his fluids but he just doesn't want any more.   :-\

Kimberly, to be fair--I don't really "measure" anymore----but just a guess about 5oz with each meal--although he does spill some of it and leaves a bit in the cup. There are days where he barely drinks any milk at alll---so I don't really stress. Naps are enough a worry right now ::)

My lo has 8oz 3x day but we trying to reduce this but every time we do she doesn't eat more solids she just starts waking in the night for milk!!
She just turned 1 so everything happening at once again: dropping naps, needing less milk & she still has not got a bloody tooth.
I know all babes different but it good to compare sometimes, so thanks. :)

Just FYI...My DS  would NOT suck from ANY sippy cup I could find; he would chew on them instead.   THEN I FOUND THE NUBY CUPS!!!    These cups don't have a valve so when he chews on it something comes out.  Now he will suck on it too.. Just a suggestion... (Not to mention these only have 2 parts to the WHOLE cup.  MUCH easier to clean!!!)

Hi

I have recently switched from bottle to sippy cup,  I was wondering if you guys give your milk in a sippy at each meal?  My question is when do you give your last sippy of milk, at supper or before bed and do you also give a snack before bed.

our schedule looks like this

7am 6oz cow's milk
8am breakfast
10 nap
11 snack and 4oz cow's milk
12:30 lunch
2 nap
4 snack
5:30 supper 6oz cow's milk
7:30 bed

I have tryed to give 3 oz at supper and 3 before bed but she didn't drink the last 3 oz and woke at 2am only for half an hour but she never wakes.  Today I gave her the full 6 at supper and she left 1 and half oz that I gave her at 7:15 with a snack but I had to give her 3 more OZ and she refused the snack and chose to down her milk.  I am confused as to what to do?  Any ideas

Renee
