Less engorged with #2?
« on: December 15, 2006, 19:18:07 pm »
My lovely dd2 is 7 weeks old tomorrow, nursing has been going very well.  She's generally nursing 7-8 times a day and has recently started to stretch out a bit a night, going one 5-6 hour stretch overnight.  I do remember when dd1 did that though, I would wake up with rock-hard gigantic boobs and it doesn't seem quite as noticeable this time.  If she sleeps longer, I feel sore and full, but not huge and super hard.  Is this normal b/c she's my second and my body is more used to it, or am I going to have supply issues down the road?

She generally eats about every 3 hours during the day with the one longer stretch at night.  She's got lots of wet diapers and has a poopy one every day or so (a recent development, before the past week she had many poopy ones every day).  She has lots of swallows when she's nursing and often only needs to take one side, though I generally offer the second.  She's growing well (near 90th percentile or over for both height and weight) and seems quite satisfied after nursing.  When I pump, I generally get at least 5oz, when I pumped for a feed we gave her a bottle for, I got almost 8.

Part of me thinks I'm reading into this too much and everything is fine, but I'm really just looking for some reassurance that it is, because with dd1 it seemed like I was always engorged, leaking, uncomfortable, etc.

TIA :)

Erin, I can totally relate to your concern.  I was there!  Your body has been there done that before and is wiser for it.  It is adjusting easier to the demands.  As Emma told me, your breasts are smarter now  ;)

The only other times I questioned my supply was growth spurts.  Here I am at 15 months still bfing 3 times a day.... back at 2 months I never thought that possible.

You're doing great and Allie seems to be thriving!

Proud to have breastfed for a combined total of 35 months

Thanks Rachel, that is just what I needed to hear :)  She's such a little doll, just want everything to continue going smoothly :)

That's the way it was with me too. Not early as much engorgement the second time, so I guess your body gets used to it!

COngrats on your new little one!  :)
