Is it necessary to change from a soft spout sippy??
« on: December 19, 2006, 19:00:48 pm »
I have been using the Nuby sippy cups ever since we transitioned from a bottle.  My dd only drinks milk from these.  (she is 18 mo).  She drinks water from just about any sippy cup, but milk she only seems to like from teh soft spout sippys.  I have tried to change cupts but not very diligently. Are there any negatives to drinking from the soft spout?

I don't know. I personally don't like them cause I find they can leak. Isaac has other opinions, he loves the soft spout one. I only give it to him at night, which lately he hasn't been drinking. I use the playtex ones during the day cause I can take them along and they don't leak.

That is a very good question.  I am going to hover around and see what peoples opinions on this are.  Hope you don't mind.

I'm also wondering the same thing - we use the Nuby's as well.  Had such a hard time getting him to drink from a cup in the first place, and those were the only ones we had success with.

I have heard that it is better to drink from a hard-spout cup eventually, and even removing the valve so that the liquid flows more freely, giving your lo the feel of taking an actual "sip".  But I really don't feel like ds (or my hardwood floors!) is ready for that.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a hard-spout cup that is easy to clean?  That is why I like the Nuby's so much - there are no annoying valves to deal with.

We use the Avent sippy cup and ds will drink his juice and water from it, but will not take his milk out of it  ::)

Paula - do you find that the Avent cups leak?  We use these less frequently - ds will drink from them (not as well as from the Nuby though), but I get so annoyed with the leaking - liquid comes out of the little vent across from the spout.

Our Avent ones will only leak when DS throws them across the room and the lid loosens.  Have you kept the plastic bit in the valve of the sippy cup?

We bought a nubby one and found that it leaked terribly.  We could not get the lid on it tight enough for him to drink out of it, without the teat collapsing or leaking.

We did not like the Nuby's here either as they always leaked. We use the Avent sippy or a regular cup

maggie - i believe it's first years - makes a disposable take & toss sippy cup.  dishwasher safe, cheap, and no valve.  :)
