Can someone take a look at our routine?
« on: December 23, 2006, 19:18:55 pm »
Hi there
DS is 14 mo and due to bad nightwakings are routine is a bit up in the air but heres what it generally looks like:

Wake 7.30-8ish
E Breakfast
A
E 12.15 lunch
A
S 12.45 ish for 1.45-2 hrs
A snack
E dinner at 6.30 ish

7- 7.15 bath, bottle then bed.

Do u think DS may be overtired?
This routine varies a lot as if he wakes very early he will have an am nap too. Or if he's had a really bad night he may sleep till 9 or later.

Nighttime: generally wakes every hr or so , max every 1.5 hrs, fusses a lot, cries if I dont go in and is generally easy to settle untill 3- 4ish when it gets harder and can take over an hr to get him back to sleep.

Any thoughts much appreciated thanx!

Hi babe!

Could he be getting night terrors? Santiago has beenhaving them for a while  :-\

Also, Santiago has lunch at 11:30 and is in his crib by 12 the latest. I found that if he went to bed even 20 mins later he would have a shorter nap and have night wakings. Sometimes even 30 mins more on their nap makes all the difference with nighttime sleep.  ;)

The rest of your routine looks good to me

Let me know how you get on  :-* :-* :-*

Hugs Michelle  :-*

Sounds like you are going through a rough time.

I agree with what Beca said.  Thomas has his lunch at around 11:30 and is in his bed for 12 o clock.  He too also has quite a few night wakings if he goes to bed any later.

I am also thinking, do you think he may be teething?  I know that when Thomas was cutting his molars, and was even worse when he was cutting his Eye Teeth, that he was very unsettled and would  not sleep for long without waking up screaming.  It took us ages to settle him during the nights.

Night terrors can also cause this.  Quite often we will hear Thomas sleeping and then start whimpering and wake up screaming.  If he does have a bad dream he is very difficult to settle and is very clingy.

Hope things improve for you.  Please keep us posted on how your little man is doing.

Take care

Paula x

Hello Michelle.  Hope you had a good Christmas and the sleep issues were not too bad.
When he wakes during the night what do you do or what have you done in the past? What settles him.  Remind me, how does he drop off to sleep?  I know that you have loads of issues as I did with Alex and I hope that we can help you bring this to an end soon.

((((HUGS)))) Yaya.

Like Paula mentioned, we have it had it really rough with the top molars and top eye teeth.  Things are finally settling down now that they are all out. (Hooray!) So teething can really throw things off, although our naps were out the window too with teething, yours sound pretty good?  I was also wondering how much milk he is taking?  I find Nello eats solids well, but still needs around 20 oz a day still.  He has A.M. and P.M. BF and has almost 8 oz in a sippy during and after lunch.

hi guys sory its taken me ages to get back to u, thanx all for the suggestions. I think its all of the things u have said, yep he's cuttign teeth but has been for ages. He is also going through some really bad SA and maybe night terrors is an issue.
re: how he drops off to sleep...on me, we attempted sleep training again when health issues were sorted but things were getting worse and I have no energy from all the sleepless nights. when he wakes I usually go in place hand on back, if he's really upset I'll rub his back until he calms then take hand off but stay till he goes back to sleep. Around 3/4 most night he will be totally wide awake and usually takes 1 hr or so to settle him, in my arms.

In the past almost 4 months he has had 2 nights when he's woken only once so I know he CAN do it! i also know that the lack of indep sleep is a huge culprit but have decided to attempt the sleep trainign again only when I will see it through, so not at the mo.

The only thing which I have noticed as helping with the night wakings is if the first time he wakes (usually after 1 hr) I leave him. if he settles himself in 5 mins then he seems to be able to do it for the rest of the nigh too. If he's really upset and I have to go in, then he'll keep needing me through the night.

I have decided he is ovetired so i do need to get him into bed for nap earlier (may go back to 2 naps temp) and also the SA is a really big part in it as when I go in to him at night, he gets really, really upset whenever I try to leave. If i dont go in, he seems fine ???

Yep, I think he is wanting a cuddle back to sleep most of the night.  ;D
Get DH to do a few nights for you and when you feel up to it make that new years resolution and teach him independent sleep.  You know that you have to be 100% and you know that you are not ready for this yet so you are very wise to just do what you are doing until then.  We will be waiting to help you through it when you are ready.
