I don't know where else to post this....
« on: December 27, 2006, 15:05:34 pm »
My 18mo old lo is finally on a great schedule.
He is totally on sippy cups but still has a first morning one of milk when waking and one right before bed.  The problem is he consistently wets through his diaper every night.  I double diaper and still doesn't help.  I have also cut back the amt he gets before bed.  When he is wet he has been waking earlier ie. 6am.  When he isn't wet he'll sleep until 7.  Any suggestions??

Here is his current schedule

630ish wake and 8oz sippy milk
700 breakfast
830-9snack
1130 lunch
12 pm nap usually 2-2.5hrs
230-3 snack with2-4oz sippy milk
530-6 supper
700 sippy with milk 6oz
730 bed

Thanks.

Sabine

I have a friend who puts a "super" maxi pad in her son's night time diaper to keep this from happening.
I think some little guys just pee a lot! :)

Other thing you could try is a gdiaper (not the plastic pant or the fabric, just the insert itself) that might work too.

I have this problem too.  I use Pampers baby dry and I put a clean one on her as I put her in to bed.  If she wakes for any reason, I try to change her (not mess her too muh, just put a dry nappy on)  Alos, I find that a larger nappy is dryer, for her weight she should be in a 4-4+ but I put her in a size 5 as they stay dryer longer.

I had this problem too.  I started changing Olivia's diaper before I went to bed, 11ish pm, she usually had done a pee around 10:30 - 11:30pm.  I began using the huggies night time pull ups (new huggies diaper I think).  Since then she has slept wonderfully, no wake ups.  now she'll call out in the middle of the night & ask to pee because she likes being dry.  I was afraid that changing her before bed while sleeping was going to be disastrous, but she became used to it by the 3rd night, has no memory of it in the morning.  As for wanting to pee around 1 or 2am, we just pick her up sit her down on the toilet, she does her business, pull up back on, up go the jammie pants(she does not sleep in a one piece outfit), back to bed, no problems.  She has been dry all night for the last 2 weeks & day time trained, in super absorbant underwear since she was 25 months.  we started cutting back or notoffering drinks past 7:15pm, upstairs for bedtime routine & a pee at 8pm.  We only offer a drink of water if she asks, or is sick & needs to increase her fluid intake.  It worried me that she could hold her bladder that long, but she is also sweats alot :o during nighttime sleep.  Apparently her father was the same way with sweating when he was a child, so the fluids still get out, not sitting in her bladder. ;)

Admittidly I have never had either of my ds's on a bedtime bottle, once they stopped night bf (13 & 17.5mo) that was it. What they had at dinner was pretty much it for the night.
with my 19mo his wetness has dropped considerably since he dropped his night feed.
He has about 12-20oz Milk mostly breakfast, morning & afternoon tea. He has a drink milk or dilute juice with Dinner & then water between that & bed. There is actually no reason that they need the milk before bed & it shouldn't bring about early waking due to hunger in a toddler...if it does it should only take a couple of days to adjust.

To be honest what I would be doing was dropping the bedtime milk & moving it to the morning snack... now my 3yo is night toilet trained I have found they both do fine on offering lots of fluid during the day & between 3pm & 6pm & then only if they ask after that. I certainly am glad not to have to use liners anymore with ds#2

Hi Sabine,
Just get the really absorbent ones, don't need the super thick ones like from the Hospital...just the "super" ones.
The larger sized diaper might work too!
Let us know how you fare!

Yes Stacy, ever thought about when they are sick & hardly eat for days but they still sleep the same... after 12mo most hunger is "learnt" so they can be "trained" to get food at other times.
I have had times where Liam (when about 16mo) had refused dinner & gone from a 3.30pm snack to 7.30am Breakfast no worries. Toddlers aren't like babies their metabolism can use stored energy, so really the bedtime milk is just a "parental habit" not a need.
