I went to the doctor today b/c I have been having problems with acne and BIG hormonal mood swings.  She has suggested that I go on the pill again (tricyclen) - combination pill - not just progesterone.  I was on the pill for about 10 years up till 6 months before I got pregnant. 

When I got home today, I did some reading and all the literature says the pill can decrease my milk supply.  I'm terrified to go on it b/c I have been exclusively breastfeeding for the past five months.  Does anyone have any experience/suggestions with regards to this?

I found that I had a definite decrease in milk supply when I started taking the pill again. It was given to me by the surgery nurse who knew I was exclusively BF, but I believe when I asked if it was OK to take when BF she said yes based on the fact that it wouldn';t affect my Son, not that it wouldn;t affect my supply.

The pill you mentioned wasn't what was prescribed to me so perhaps it is OK????

We are relying on condoms, but then again with a new baby we aren't that way inclined much anyway!!!! :-)

Have you had supply issues? I have heard it for sure can affect your supply. If you NEED to go on it, perhaps you can work on something herbal or ? to help maintain your supply. It will affect every person different, so you never know. I have heard the mini pill is better but there is still a chance it will affect. Not sure what else to tell ya ;)

Oh, yes,it did affect my milk supply. I was on bcp's between baby #2 & 3... baby 2 was on formula by 5 months old. :( I don't know if taking a galactagogue (sp?) would help counteract it or not.

It's been awhile, lol, but I think it was the mini pill. My supply tanked, big time. Once he weaned to the bottle, I know I switched to a different formulation. Hmmm. Both types did a number on me in other ways, too. Killed my libido completely (not hard to do when running after a 5yo and a newborn, lol) and my weight skyrocketed. It wasn't pretty. I just don't do well with hormone therapy of any kind. :)
