NEW STAGES OF DEVELOPMENT
« on: January 02, 2007, 13:33:43 pm »
Hi, i am a first time mom and i was wondering what i should be introducing / changing to my 14mth old boy, in the respect of:-

Changing his milk bottle to a cup.
When do you stop the night bottle / cup feed.
How much milk should he be having now, as he has 18oz a day(he loves his milk)

Sorry to sound a bit inept but like i said before i am very new at this.

Thanks   ???

Wilkes-I have a 12 1/2  mo daughter.  She gets all her liquid from a sippy cup except her night bottle which I give her before bed.  I am hoping to end the bed time bottle in the next couple of months.  She drinks about 14 oz of whole milk a day.  My ped says that she should be having about 10 oz but as she is still taking the night bottle it's a little more. I don't think milk can hurt as long as he is getting enough nutrition from other foods.
What does he eat these days?

I asked because when you switch to a sippy sometime the milk intake goes way down until they get the hang of it.  That's what happened to me.  If lo eats a variety of other dairy then it's not a prob.  My doc told me that the oz of milk she gets can come from other dairy.
Sounds like he's a good eater.  There are many opinions about when to switch to sippy and drop night bottle.  I think the biggest thing with night bottle is that it doesn't become a need to go to sleep.  (I think my dd does need it) oops.  That's why I am going to try to end it soon.

They say that about a pint a day but this can include milk that is in cereal, yogurts, cheeses, custards and milk used in cooking.

My DS is nearly 18 months and has just started to refusing his milk in the mornings, but has aboug 6 oz in his cereal, has 3 yogurts a day, ome cheese and his 8 oz bottle before bed.
