Moved to Bed
« on: January 03, 2007, 10:29:56 am »
I moved a bed into my toddler's room about 4 weeks ago after a week or so we started putting him in the bed for naps and night time...at first it was not a problem...the novelty factor! however the last week has been really bad, he keeps getting out of bed and his room at first I just kept putting him back in and eventually he would stay and go to sleep.  On New Years eve through frustration I ended up putting him back in his cot (which he was happy enough with) on New Years night after what felt like putting him back a million times DH stayed in room with him until he went to sleep.  Last night after a frustrating time I ended up putting him back in the cot because we were going out and I needed him to be asleep before we left and my mum (who was baby sitting) is not fit enough at the moment to continue putting him back.

So I don't know what to do now..do I stick with the bed and just do the putting back in thing (and not backing down) or do I just put him back in the cot and try again in a few weeks.

Anyone had a similar situation?

Hiya,

I'm no expert at all and am only saying i'm having the same problem really,

we put my lo in a bed 2 weeks ago it's her cot which converts in to a cot bed, so she has not cot in her room, she has been fine fell out a couple of times even though a guard is on the bed (Don't ask how she manages that one), and the last 3 nights once she has her bedtime story and drink and i put her in bed she got up 3 times then the next night 5 times then last night it was over 20. I was thinking "HERE WE GO" she eventually dropped off after some stern words of as she thought it was a game. I am hoping we don't have it again tonight i am hoping its because her routine has gone to pot over xmas and new year.

I heard never to go back to cot once you have changed i'm not sure how true this is as i have considered changing back. Can anyone adivse of this for me to.

She keeps asking me to rock her it's like she has forgot how to fall asleep on her own since having a bed.

I know..I don't really want to go back to be honest.  Caleb's cot is also a cot bed but I moved him into the bed cause I want to move Noah into Caleb's cot bed as he is only in a small cot which is not ideal for him it was a cheap cot and not very sturdy at all.

So basically I want Caleb into bed to allow me to put Noah in Caleb's cot (I will wait a few weeks before I do this though).

So I think I have answered my own question....I need to stick with the bed!

Could you put a gate on the door? Tyler's always slept with his door closed, so he's always been happy to stay in his room and it's made it easier to reassure him back to bed verbally instead of having to physically march him back to his room. He can do whatever he wants in there once the door is closed as long as he's quiet (he has books he can read). He didn't get much sleep the first few weeks, but once he got used to it, he started reading his books to wind down and falling asleep on the floor, bed, wherever. Insisting he stay in bed wasn't a battle I was willing to fight...I just didn't see the point!
