Am I feeding my lo too much milk before bed?
« on: January 04, 2007, 13:26:58 pm »
Hello

My dd has been on whole milk for about 3 weeks now (formula fed before) and the last couple of nights she has been throwing up.

Schedule
7AM Wake
715 bottle
730-830 play
830 breakfast
930 -1030 nap

1030 small snack
1030-noon play
noon lunch
1230-2 play

2-330 nap
330-530 snack and playtime
530 dinner
6-7 play
7-8 bath, story, bottle and bed

This is the situation after dd bath she has a bottle of 10oz and always drinks it, loves her milk, loved her formula. She has been drinking a 10 oz bottle before bed for about 2 mths now if not more. On Monday night dd went to bed as usual and about half an hour after sleeping she woke up crying and coughing and then threw up. She didn't have a fever and didn't' appear sick and was fine the next day. I thought that maybe she just coughed too hard and she threw up, really didn't think a whole lot about it.
Well last night (wed night) the same thing happened so now I am wondering, am I feeding her too much milk before bed? She tolerated the 10oz of formula at bedtime possibly because it was much lighter than whole milk. Could it be that her stomach can't take that much milk and then sleep? Prior to Monday she was drinking 10 oz of whole milk before bed and no problems so I am not sure of possibly this maybe something more. I wondered if it was an allergy to milk, but she is not getting sick during the day at all.
Should I maybe just feed her only 7oz before bed and see what happens?

Yup, sounds like 10 oz is too much for her.  Try the 7 oz and see how she does.

I agree with Jenn. In addition, the milk is thinner than most formulas and she may need a slower nipple at least temporarily while she adjusts.
