When to move from cotbed to cot
« on: January 04, 2007, 19:22:09 pm »
I posted about this before but with the move to new house I decided to wait. I now have a twofold problem.
Harry is still sleeping in the cotbed, ie with the sides up, now, I would like to try night training as his nappies are much drier in the morning.
Also, I feel this may be my window of opportunity as he is starting montessori in April (I am at home with him). I don't want there to be too much change at once. The  thing I am most worried about is he is such a good sleeper, and as the cotbed becomes the junior bed I won't be able to let him test it out (as metioned in the sticky at the top)

All thoughts/advice greatly appreciated. :)

Thank you,
I think once we get the rail (so he does not fall out) I am going to go ahead and try it. I just don't think there will be another good time. I hust don't want to have to rebuild it as a cot, so hopefully it will work first time !!

Well we started Liam in a single bed (trundle) today at 19mo as he is so tall he won't fit a pack & play & we go on Holiday's in Feb, so wanted to do the transition now so he was used to Bed's by them... I am keeping a diary to post. Plan to post first 24 hours tomorrow when we see how the rest of the night goes... I'm off to bed now & yes he is asleep in a "big boy bed"

I am still watching this thread as I am beginning to think about Alex in a bed and am terrified, I only just got her settled in a cot, but I am thinking of a redec of her room so a bed in in the pipeline.  Good luck to you all.

Katet !!!!!!
We just moved H tonight too !!!!
DH moved the cot bed into the bed stage, and I got a bed guard to stop him falling out (  :-* to Mariek )
We did the normal night time routine , he was a little giddy, but he did not get out,  I was sitting on the stairs waiting for the worst, all he did was call out two times for me to retuck him. Then he was asleep. I am wondering what will happen in the morning. This is the boy who sleeps from 7.15 to sometimes after 8 .....
Will be looking forward to reading your posts.
thank you Mari also.

Wish our night was that nice... but then Liam is more than a year younger than Harry & I know with Aiden who was 26mo there was a "mental understanding"

i have been thinking about a big boy bed simply cuz i don't want to do it when we move the new baby in with Ethan, but i think i am jumping the gun a bit (maybe i will just wait til the new baby is born  ::) for starters, he will be staying in our room for months anyway)
good luck ladies, will be lurking and trying to learn from your posts!  ;D

Maggieruth, your age gap looks fairly simular to my boys & we started Aiden on the bed for naps at 23mo & then into the bed at 26mo & actually moved Liam into the cot the day we moved Aiden out of it... if the baby is going to be in a bassinette, then I'd be leaving it... we are moving Liam simply because at 3ft tall he is too big for a pack & play & when we go on Hols next month our only option is pretty much for him to be in a Bed... so wanted to get him used to it before he has 2 different sleep environments over a 2 week period.
BTW I have just put a Diary entry with day 1 in this forum... all in all about what we expected, given his sleep hasn't been the best since he started teething eye teeth

Morning all,

Harry woke at 8am , I hope it lasts,  :) I am now hoping he will still lie down for his hours quiet time with his books.
Katet, I loved reading your diary, its nice to know someone else was waiting outside a lo's room to see what would happen last night...
Good Luck, I will keep reading.

thanks Kate, i have noticed our gap looks very similar as well as the fact that Ethan and Liam are pretty close in age.
Ethan certainly is nowhere near three feet yet! however today brings potty introduction and this has gone alarmingly well (the toilet was NEVER this popular) and maybe too well but thats another forum, except that if Ethan started to look like he was gonna stay dry things would change
for now tho, will not do any boat rocking, will keep a look in on your diary and will watch with interest and best wishes! x

Just to say H went to sleep tonight, I did not have to go in to check on him, I just waited outside,  :) When the music box was finished he was asleep as normal.
The rest time went well, he read as usual, but when he ran out of books he got out, I went in and popped him back in.

This morning was fine also, I was worried about him waking up when DH left but he was fine.

Kate : I did not want to post on your diary but  saying hi , I think thats a gread idea about settling in the bed first. Thats what I was most worried about, that I would not have the cot to change back to.
