Picky about expressed milk
« on: January 08, 2007, 04:17:33 am »
My almost 4 month old is doing great at going from breast to bottle and back again while we transition.  I have nearly 1 month of EBM stored in my freezer- precious gold!  The problem is my little one can tell the difference between frozen and fresh.  She definitely dislikes the frozen and I don't know why.  I had hoped to extend her intake of breastmilk with this stash.  Does the taste change somehow while frozen?  The longest the milk has been frozen is 3 months and the milk I had given her was only 2 months old.  I don't understand and will be a very sad mama if she won't take it.  Any thoughts or suggestions?  She does take formula and I have thought about just increasing the formula mixed with the frozen.

I have noticed a change in smell when I defrost milk.

You could mix it with the formula or even save it until she starts solids at 6 months and use it in cereals and other foods to water them down.

Proud to have breastfed for a combined total of 35 months

My lo doesn't like previously frozen older milk either.  I use it in cereal...she's 9 months now.  I would recommend giving freshly pumped milk for the bottle, that's what we do...it works for us.
