Need new nap routine to fit with creche - advice needed
« on: January 09, 2007, 09:03:01 am »
My DS is 12 months and is due to start creche next week. Because he's over 1 year old he's going into the toddler room where they have 1 nap between 1 and 3pm. The trouble is my fella is an early riser - something I trying to tackle with early bed times - usually waking around 5.30ish. There's no way he can make it to 1pm wthout an am nap. So I'm going to give him a nap at home before he goes in to the creche, but equally I want him to be able to sleep for at least 1.5 hours at 1pm. His current routine is all over the place at the minute - what with Xmas family visits and he's also got the chickenpox - but before Xmas he was doing this:

6.30 wake
9.30 nap - wake him at 10
1pm - 2.30 nap
7pm bed

He's now waking an hour earlier and I'm not sure that half an hour in the am will be enough to see him through. I suppose I just have to try a few things - maybe 45 mins at 9am - but wondered if anyone had any advice?

Thanks

What time does he go to creche?  If you take him around the 9oclock mark, would he sleep in the car.  Or wouldn't the creche bear with you until he grows out of his 2 naps?  It shouldn't be much longer now.  You will be surprised how much difference half an hour in the AM can do.

A good nursery should be willing to work around your child's needs. At that age, I would expect them to know that not all LOs have transitioned to one nap yet and make allowances for that. Have you asked them if they can be flexible ?

The creche has said that they could give him an am nap in the baby room if he needs it, but if I can I'd rather have him do the am nap at home before we go in. Yesterday he woke at 5.30 and he napped from 9am and i woke him at 9.45. He didn't make it to 1pm though. He slept from 12.45 until 3.15 - a long nap for him, though he's probably still recovering from his bout of chickenpox. This morning he woke at 6.30 - though he did wake at 4am and I bf-ed him. So I'll give him half an hour from 9.30 - 10 and see if he can make it to 1pm today.

I think it's just going to be a case of trial and error.

Yes trial and errror is the thing when we have new things going on, they do adjust and we do find a balance if we try hard enough.  Good luck
