Longer napping and not using bottle as a prop
« on: January 11, 2007, 16:22:26 pm »
My lo will not sleep for more that 30 to 45 mins, it doesnt matter whether he hasnt been asleep for hours, he will just simply not sleep for long.
He has never really been a big sleeper.
When he wakes up from a nap and he is rubbing his eyes because he is still tired he will not go back to sleep, even if i try rocking him back to sleep he will just not go.
He is also using his bottle to go to sleep during the day and night, which i want to try and stop as i would like him to sleep through the night without needing to be picked up, given his bottle and me or the bottle getting him back to sleep.
I have tried getting him to sleep without the bottle but it just a fight and he will often scratch and pull my hair, it is like he doesnt like the thought of going to sleep.
Is there anything that i could try to get him to sleep for longer and to also not need me and the bottle to get him to sleep
Thanks
Sam

How old is your lo?  I went through the same thing (minus the bottle) it was really frustrating.  It took a while to get out of, but what I did was during that window of wake up (30-45 min) I would stay close and when he would start to stir, I would shush him or give him his pacifier back.  It took a couple weeks, I think, but he now sleeps long 2 hr stretches...Something else that really helped was when he did wake up I left him in his crib and I stayed in the room until it was time for his next feed.  He would cry sometimes, but the next sleep time he would be better.  I wondered if it was because he learned that he was not going to get to play if he woke up.
