Question on moving to Big Bed
« on: January 11, 2007, 20:16:23 pm »
Well, I bought my dd a big bed about 7 months ago and it is in her room with the crib. She has napped in it one time. I would like to go ahead and transition her to it, she is now 28 months. She acts like she is fine in the crib. What do you guys think? Just keep going in the crib? It is a LARGE crib, or move her. She has a trundle bed so I could start her on the floor like I have heard others say. I was thinking about just moving the crib out completely so she can't choose the crib. Any advice? Should I just not even try...

Personally, if she is still fine in the crib, I would leave her.  Why fix something that isn't broken?

We made the transition when dd was 26 months and I still wish we could go back!!!!  It's been pretty rough for us.  Naps went haywire at that point and we now only get her to take one about half the time--maybe that has nothing to do with the new bed, but I think it does.  And now when she doesn't nap, she can get up and destroy things in her room (tore up a book a couple days ago >:().

Just my experience. . .

I'm always a fan of waiting as long as humanly possible...I think it's easier once they're older and are better able to understand what's expected of them. That said, we moved Tyler to a big bed at 29 mo because of a baby on the way. We would have waited longer if we could but he did fine with the transition. A couple of ugly weeks but we all survived.

If the timing's right, and you're ready for a few potentially exhausting weeks, go for it. If you decide to do it, you might move the crib out completely. You can even have her help you take it down so she understands that it's gone. We have a trundle bed too, we didn't even have to use guard rails on the new bed...just pulled the lower mattress out so he had a soft place to land if he rolled out. It didn't take him long to figure out how to stay in the bed.

I appreciate you guys responding. I guess that I am just going to wait. I don't want to rush things. I enjoy her nice naps still!!  ;)

I ABSOLUTELY 100% agree to wait! I had to move ds because he was climbing out and things were never the same. My wonderful napper was not so wonderful anymore! Enjoy those nice naps they are a blessing!
