Milestones....
« on: January 16, 2007, 04:11:54 am »
Hey mamas! So my ds started just being crazy at night for no reason recently and I could not figure it out. He had just gotten over a flu so I thought maybe some bad habits came out of that. But he crawled for the first time tonight (!) and so I think it was a milestone thing that had him waking up. Im a first time mommy so Im wondering how long the night waking lasts once the milestone is hit? I hear leading up to the milestone waking up at night is common but I havent heard how long roughly that lasts before they go back to relaxing at night again :)

I really can't answer your question as I'm really not sure of the answer, but I wanted to say:
YEA FOR DS'S CRAWLING!!!!
Congrats on the milestone!! What a wonderful time!!  ;D

Thank you! I know I was so excited! For a long time I thought he was going to skip crawling and go right to walking because he is more interested in standing so it was so cool when he did this last night :)

My DS was the same, he was not interested in crawling - just wanted to WALK! When he did crawl it was with one leg bent underneath him, like half-walking.  ::)

Anyway, it's hard to say how long wakings will last with a milestone since each LO is different. It's really great though that you recognize that's what it is. The best way to get through it as quickly as possible is to give LO as much time as he wants during the day to practice. If he wants to literally do nothing else, go with it. That way he'll master it faster and get the urge to practice out of his system.

That is exactly what my lo did! He never crawled without that leg underneath him, he went straight from that to walking and didn't turn back!!  :)

How have the last few night with your ds been? is he still waking?

Well last night he settled a little more. What drives me nuts is that my husband gets up with him until midnight if he wakes up. I get up with him if he wakes up from midnight until he is up for the morning. He sleeps the best from 9-2 so my husband is getting off easy I think  :P Im considering getting a video baby monitor. Im too tempted to run in there everytime I think I hear him. If I didnt do that he might roll around for a bit and then go back to sleep and I could just check on him with the video monitor. I dont know. Im not even sure how long its normal to use baby monitors for lol

lol, I think they always get off easier!!  ;)

Do you put him down to bed at 9? you may find if you put him down earlier he may sleep better.  I put my lo down, after his bedtime routine at 7:30 no later than 8:00pm... Just a suggestion!

Also I have to say that I did the same thing with my lo, would go in at the smallest sound. Eventually I started to leave him unless he started to cry (not mantra crying or fussing.) If he started to actually cry I would go in, otherwise I left him... it took SO much for me to leave him, and sometimes I would cry  :'( (seems so silly now!) But I have to say I am so thankful we let him figure out how to fall back asleep by himself, now!
