one year hardly drinks
« on: January 16, 2007, 17:35:02 pm »
My one year old only drinks about 8-10 ounces of milk a day.  I put 4 ounces in her oatmeal, but I'm nervous.  Is there a way to get her to want to drink more?

Mine does the same.  I think it's because I give her a bottle before bed. Which I am working on ending.  My ped says 10-12 is fine.  I am trying to push milk during the day so I am sure I can cut the bottle out without her not getting enough.  I just keep a sippy with milk around all the time.  When she wakes from a nap we sit down to read and I give her the milk.  That usually gets a couple of oz in.

My dd is the same way, a 6 oz bottle in the morning and a 6 oz bottle before bed, i offer the sippy for the remainder of the day,but she does not like to drink out of it.

Hi

you really aren't alone!  My ds has always hated milk, and sometimes takes as little as 6oz! (never more than 12, which is a great day!!)  He also won't eat cereal of any description, so can't even include it there!  We end of offering lots of yogurts as an alternative, as you can't force them to drink it.  I've also given in and now offer baby juice in a sippy, as I don't want him to dehydrate!

At the moment, he's only taking 1-2 ounces in the morning, which is very annoying, as you'd think he'd be hungry, after 12 hours asleep!

Anyway, just to say you are not alone!
